Countrytime is a Canadian country music television program which aired on CBC Television from 1970 to 1974.
This concert-style country music program was hosted by Myrna Lorrie. It was produced by CBC Halifax and recorded in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, first at Dartmouth High School's auditorium, then from 1972 at Prince Andrew High School which had greater capacity. Vic Mullen and house band The Hickorys regularly appeared on the program. [1] Visiting artists included The Allan Sisters, Wilf Carter, Blake Emmons, Lynn Jones and The Mercey Brothers.
This program is distinct from CBC's Countrytime rural current affairs program which aired during the 1960s.
This half-hour program was first broadcast on Saturdays at 10:30 p.m. from 28 February 1970 to 28 July 1973, except for some mid-year breaks and repeat broadcasts. During the NHL season, it followed the Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts.
Countrytime was rescheduled to Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. from 4 October 1973 to 3 January 1974, then finally on Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. from 30 January to 3 April 1974.
CJOH-DT is a television station in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, part of the CTV Television Network. It is owned and operated by network parent Bell Media alongside Pembroke-licensed CTV 2 outlet CHRO-TV. Blake Emmons is a Canadian country music singer and entertainer. Emmons hosted the 1974 CTV series Funny Farm, the Canadian answer to Hee Haw. He also co-hosted the Nashville syndicated music show The Country Place with Jim Ed Brown for Show Biz Inc. in the 1970s. In 1985, Emmons appeared on the American game show The Joker's Wild as a contestant. He later hosted the game show Chain Reaction on September 29, 1986, which aired on Global Television Network in Canada and on USA Network in the United States. He chose not to continue as host after the first series of shows due to the fact the shows were produced in Montreal rather than California as originally agreed. He was replaced by Geoff Edwards. Other works on which he appeared include Mary, and TV's Bloopers and Practical Jokes for Dick Clark, as well as hosting the Playboy Shopping Show on the Playboy Channel. He appeared nationally on CBC Television's Countrytime in the early 1970s.
The Royal Canadian Air Farce was a comedy troupe that was active from 1973 to 2019. It is best known for their various Canadian Broadcasting Corporation series, first on CBC Radio and later on CBC Television. Although their weekly radio series ended in 1997 and their television series ended in 2008, the troupe produced annual New Year's Eve specials on CBC Television until 2019. CBC announced that, due to budgetary constraints, the special scheduled to air on December 30, 2019 would be the final in the series.
