The County Dublin Championships [1] also known as the County Dublin Open Tennis Championships [2] is a combined men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1882 as the County Dublin Tournament in Lucan, Dublin for one edition only. In 1887 the tournament was revived at Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Club until 1894 only. [3] In 1908 it was revived for the second time at the Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club, Carrickmines, Republic of Ireland where it is still played today. [4]
In 1882 a County Dublin Tournament was inaugurated at Lucan, Dublin which was a handicap event only then was discontinued. In 1887 a formal County Dublin Championships was established Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Club, Dublin, Ireland.Carrickmines Croquet & Lawn Tennis Club The championships were held for just eight editions until 1894 before being discontinued again. The tournament was not staged again from 1895 until 1907. In 1908 it was resumed at a new venue and location at the Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club, Carrickmines, County Dublin. [5] The County Dublin Championships tournament is still held at the Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club every summer, usually during the week after Wimbledon. [6]
The Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Club was founded founded by Henry Dunlop in 1875 and was then known as the All Ireland Lawn Tennis Club, located in the rugby ground. In 1880 that the club's name was changed to Lansdowne Lawn Tennis Club. [7] It staged the tournament for eight years. In 1908 the championships were moved to the Carrickmines Croquet & Lawn Tennis Club where it is still played, the club's 18 tennis courts today consist of 8 grass tennis courts, 6 synthetic grass courts, 3 indoor acrylic court and 1 clay court as well as 2 practice walls. The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), also known as the All England Club, based at Church Road, Wimbledon, London, England, is a private members' club. It is best known as the venue for the Wimbledon Championships, the only Grand Slam tennis event still held on grass. Initially an amateur event that occupied club members and their friends for a few days each summer, the championships have become far more prominent than the club itself. However, it still operates as a members' tennis club.
Dr Joshua Pim FRCSI was a medical doctor and Irish amateur tennis player. He won the Wimbledon men's singles title two years in a row, in 1893 and 1894, and was ranked British number one in both those years. He won the Wimbledon men's doubles in 1890 and 1893.

The 1877 Wimbledon Championship was a men's tennis tournament held at the All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon, London. It was the world's first official lawn tennis tournament, and was later recognised as the first Grand Slam tournament or "Major". The AEC & LTC had been founded in July 1868, as the All England Croquet Club. Lawn tennis was introduced in February 1875 to compensate for the waning interest in croquet. In June 1877 the club decided to organise a tennis tournament to pay for the repair of its pony roller, needed to maintain the lawns. A set of rules was drawn up for the tournament, derived from the first standardised rules of tennis issued by the Marylebone Cricket Club in May 1875.

Braddell winning 4 tournaments from 6 finals.

Edward Lake Williams was a British tennis player active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was a finalist in the men's doubles at the 1884 Wimbledon Championships partnering Ernest Wool Lewis where they lost to William Renshaw and Ernest Renshaw. In singles he was quarter finalist at the Northern Championships, and semi-finalist at the Princes Club Championships in 1883. From 1881 until 1908 he contested 13 career finals and won 6 titles in singles.

The East of Ireland Tennis Championships originally known as the East of Ireland Championships is a combined men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1885. The first championships was played at the Howth Lawn Tennis Club, Howth, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland. The tournament ran as a senior international tour event until 1979. The championships are still being played today.
