Courtney Kube is an American television journalist who works with NBC News as a senior national security correspondent covering the Pentagon and national security appearing on NBC News and MSNBC. [1]
After graduating from the University of Maryland with dual degrees in political science, psychology, and a study of journalism, she began her internship (which would soon be her full-time career) at NBC News behind-the-scenes in 2001 as a researcher and associate producer working closely with Tim Russert helping to produce his Meet the Press shows and segments, accelerating within the ranks as a desk assistant and producer at NBC. Courtney always remembered how Russert helped shape her career.
She was also a producer for NBC vet. Jim Miklaszewski for his live shots from the Pentagon and his reports on NBC News within Washington D.C. and abroad. They co-authored reports on national security topics, especially a notable story in 2012 about Navy SEALS and concerns over the exposure of classified information. [2]
In 2017, Kube's big break came when she was promoted to an on-air correspondent for NBC News reporting live from the Pentagon and the Department of Defense. In 2019, she was later promoted to being the network's Pentagon correspondent and reports on public security issues, military operations, national security coverage, wars and conflict zones in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Libya and attends Pentagon press briefings frequently etc.
Kube won the "Tex" McCrary Award for Excellence in Journalism for her reporting. Before she did, she addressed what national security is all about and the importance of what the Medal of Honor truly stands for. [3] She then won the award at the Congressional Medal of Honor Society's Award Gala. She was also honored when receiving it at the gala in Knoxville, Tennessee for her versatility of continued reporting. [4]
Kube has been married to her husband, Eric Dent, since 2013, and they have three sons: Ryan, Jake, and Andrew. In 2019, Kube went viral when one of her sons adorably crashed her MSNBC breaking news segment live on-air while she was talking about Turkey's invasion of Syria, but smiled and continued with her report, gently pushing him away as she kept talking. That moment got her dubbed as "MSNBC mom." [5]
