It is part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and is a lower-tier municipality within the Peel Region. The city has a population of 656,480 as of the 2021 Census, making it the ninth most populous municipality in Canada and the third most populous city in the Greater Golden Horseshoe urban area, behind Toronto and Mississauga. The City of Brampton is bordered by Vaughan to the east, Halton Hills to the west, Caledon to the north, Mississauga to the south, and Etobicoke (Toronto) to the southeast.

The school is administered by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. It is one of few schools in Ontario to offer Pre-Advanced Placement courses starting in grade 9; most schools offer the option of Advanced Placement (AP) level classes in grade 12. Students who graduate in any course with an AP level exam completed will earn university-level credits in the course. The school is also a provider of the Business and Transportation Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM), granting students who complete the major with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma including a recognized seal for employment opportunities after graduation.

The 37,280 square metre complex is a prominent example of postmodern architecture in Canada, finished in 1987 by Jones and Kirkland. It stands at 92 metres or 302 feet. The design was influenced by farmsteads which once occupied much of Mississauga as well as historical features of city centres. The building, for instance, includes a prominent clock tower. It was chosen as the winner of a design competition that included 246 submissions. Mississauga Civic Centre is located in the City Centre near Square One Shopping Centre and is home to the Mississauga City Council. The civic center building is considered one of the most iconic and recognizable buildings and cultural icons of Mississauga city.

The school opened in Mississauga in 2001, after spending a year as a holding school in Georgetown. It is a joint venture between the city of Mississauga and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. According to the Fraser Institute, it is currently ranked 2nd in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board behind, 6th in Mississauga, and 63rd out of 623 high schools in Ontario.
Vincent Massey Collegiate Institute is a Toronto District School Board facility that was previously operated as public secondary school in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was operated by the Etobicoke Board of Education in the former suburb of Etobicoke from its opening in 1961 until its closure in 1985 and later became the Vincent Massey Centre as an adult school until 1993. Owned and oversighted by the board's arms-length division, Toronto Lands Corporation, it is one of two schools in Etobicoke to be named for the late Governor General of Canada, the other was Vincent Massey Public School.

As of now there are over 1,800 students enrolled in, and the uniform consists of a navy blue golf shirt, a navy blue golf t-shirt and navy blue pants. Additional uniform pieces include a rugby sweater, a Campion branded sweatshirt and a school sweater. Previously, the uniform consisted of khaki pants but this was altered in 2023.
