Crappin' You Negative is the third full-length album from The Grifters and was released on Shangri-La Records. The album was reissued as a remastered version in 2016, by Fat Possum Records.
Gin Blossoms is an American rock band formed in 1987 in Tempe, Arizona. They rose to prominence following the 1992 release of their first major label album, New Miserable Experience, and the first single released from that album, "Hey Jealousy". "Hey Jealousy" became a Top 25 hit and went gold, and New Miserable Experience eventually went quadruple platinum; four other charting singles were released from the album. The band's follow-up album, Congratulations I'm Sorry (1996), went platinum and the single "As Long as It Matters" was nominated for a Grammy Award. Gin Blossoms broke up in 1997. Since reuniting in 2001, the band has released Major Lodge Victory in 2006, No Chocolate Cake in 2010, and Mixed Reality in 2018.
Easley McCain Recording is an American recording studio, based in Memphis, Tennessee, notable for recording musicians such as Tav Falco's Panther Burns, Oblivians, Grifters, Pavement, Sonic Youth, Come, White Stripes, Townes Van Zandt, Pezz, Jeff Buckley, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Guided by Voices, Lydia Lunch, Box Tops, Rufus Thomas, Wilco, Cat Power, Modest Mouse, The Amps, The Cooters, and The Walkmen.
Grifters was a 1990s indie rock band based in Memphis who released albums on Doink, Sonic Noise, Shangri-La Records, and Sub Pop Records.
Comes a Time is the ninth studio album by Canadian / American singer-songwriter Neil Young, released in October 1978. "Comes a Time" is also the title song and a single release from the album.
One Sock Missing is the second album from the Grifters released in 1993 on Shangri-La Records. "Certainly the most low-key of the Grifters' early records, 1993's One Sock Missing is less noisy and aggressive than its immediate predecessor, So Happy Together " One Sock Missing signals the direction and sound the band would work on throughout their career.
So Happy Together is the first full-length album by Memphis indie rock band Grifters. The album was noisy and lo-fi, even by Grifters standards, much of it consisting of 4-track home recordings. It was released on the now defunct Chicago label Sonic Noise. It featured the re-recording "The Want," which debuted as an A Band Called Bud song. Originally released on vinyl as a six-song mini-album, it was extended to a full twelve-track album, though the album only features ten song titles. The back of the CD tray lists the original tracks apart from the bonus tracks and some of the lyrics to "Wreck" are featured in an image by Greg Harwell.
Ain't My Lookout is the fourth full-length album by Memphis indie rock band The Grifters, and their first for Sub Pop Records. While Sub Pop released the Compact Disc, the Grifters remained true to their old home, Shangri-La Records, which was able to receive the licensing for the vinyl release. The vinyl LP release is now out of print. The album marked a stylistic change in the band's sound, with the lo-fi sound featured on previous albums being devoid on this release.
The Eureka E.P. is the third E.P. album by Memphis indie rock band The Grifters. Tripp Lamkins' liner notes state the reason for an EP instead of a full-length album:
"Well, after much touring, little band practice, a new young'un, 38 more Pavement comparisons, & the inevitable demise of the flower shop van, we bring you-an e.p. Hope no one feels slighted, but having 6 or 7 fewer songs to tear our greying hair out over will probably keep us together a long while. It was a pretty good year though. Touring with bands like Rodan(r.i.p.), Ruby Falls, Dambuilders, The Strapping Fieldhands, GBV, Ed Hall, Versus, Red Red Meat, & Jawbox kind of makes being away from Memphis worthwhile not to mention getting to meet so many good people all over the world. We sincerely love you and look forward to seeing you all again this year. And we will. Maybe we'll even have that lunch we're always talking about."
Full Blown Possession is the fifth and last full-length album by Memphis indie rock band The Grifters.
The Kingdom Of Jones is the second 7" EP by indie rock band The Grifters. Shangri-La Records re-released the first two Grifters singles in 1996 as The Doink Years 10" and again on CD in 2006. The song "Snake Oil" features the debut of Stan Gallimore on drums, establishing the Grifters as four-piece for the rest of their career.
The Doink Years is an album released by The Grifters in 1996.
Disfigurehead is the first 7" EP by Memphis indie rock band the Grifters. The band was still a trio and the dynamics were not dissimilar from their A Band Called Bud incarnation, except that the production was more polished and the effects were toned down so that the guitars had a rougher edge.
Lion is the first official release of the homemade tapes of Memphis musician, Scott Taylor. The earlier songs on this compilation were recorded when Taylor was only eighteen. The songs are most often bitter or outright angry love songs or simply songs of longing. The songs have many layers of guitar effects, which gives what are somewhat recognizable Southern blues roots a dark psychedelic edge. Some of the homemade recordings on Lion found their way into the hands of David Shouse, who then asked the much younger Taylor to join his new band, which would later become known as The Grifters. Though Taylor was originally reluctant to use his Hot Monkey material in a band format, "Nothin' At All" would be recorded with A Band Called Bud, while "Need You" and "Another Song" would end up on the first two Grifters EPs. It would be another five years before "Arizona" would appear on the Grifters' best-selling album, Crappin' You Negative.
Following two 7" singles, Shangri-La Records released the seven song 10" EP, Lazy in 1994. Two years later it would be expanded into More Than Lazy. Like other Hot Monkey releases, Lazy features song elements and lyrics that would later be recorded by the Grifters. For example, the short instrumental "4 Eyes" features the lead guitar riff of Crappin' You Negative's "Cinnamon", and "Steam" would become "Stream" on the Grifters' 1995 single for Derivative Records.
More Than Lazy expands 1994's Lazy from seven songs to nineteen and gives even more insight into Scott Taylor's song writing, as the listener is treated to the greatest number of "Grifterized" Hot Monkey tunes.
Break Up, Break Down is the first studio album by the Reigning Sound. It was released on May 15, 2001, by Sympathy for the Record Industry.
Trogglodynamite is the second studio album by the English rock band The Troggs, released in 1967. The album was re-released in 2003 with eight bonus tracks by Repertoire Records.
Caricatures is an album by American trumpeter Donald Byrd recorded and released on the Blue Note label in 1976. It was Byrd's final album for the label and his fifth straight release produced by Larry Mizell.
Songs From The Trees is singer-songwriter Carly Simon's 35th album, overall. The two-disc set was released on November 20, 2015 as a tie-in to her autobiography, Boys in the Trees: A Memoir. It contains newly remastered versions of songs from Simon's career, ranging from 1964's "Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod", through 1987's "Two Hot Girls " from the album Coming Around Again. The collection also includes two previously unreleased songs, "Showdown" and "I Can’t Thank You Enough", a brand new song written and performed with her son Ben Taylor.
