Creature is a Canadian pop rock band, formed in 2004 in Montreal.

History

The band formed in 2004 under the name "Pawel Czuraj" and released a debut album No Sleep At All on March 3, 2008. The following year, No Sleep At All became a nominee in the "Pop Album of The Year" category at the Juno Awards of 2009. [1]

The band's sound incorporates elements of hip hop, dance-punk and new wave music. [2] All the band's members contribute vocals to the music, which adds to the constant boy-girl dialogue in the songs. [3]

In 2005, Creature opened for Our Lady Peace in Montreal at La Tulipe [4] and has also opened for Mika [5] at the Bell Centre.

Creature also performed at Pop Montreal (2005, 2006, 2007), South by Southwest (SXSW) in 2007 [6] and in 2008, taking part in the M for Montreal showcase and at Les Transmusicales de Rennes in France.

In 2009, the band was invited to perform at the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Transmit Live showcase in Vancouver, the Transmit China [7] showcase, they also played the El Evento 40 event at Estadio Azteca, a showcase presented by Los 40 principales and the FMTU Monterrey Music Festival both in Mexico and in France they performed at the Solidays festival. [8] In August No Sleep At All was released in Mexico on Universal Music Mexico. They also played in New York City where they caught the attention of Blondie who said they were "completely unheralded in any way and fantastic". [9]

In early 2010, No Sleep At All was released in France on Universal Music France where they were previously invited to perform on Taratata. [10] Creature also did charity work for War Child, by playing to collect money at Montreal metro station, Berri-UQAM. [11] [12]

During the summer of 2010, the band went to England to record their second album with Stephen Hague. [9]

The single "Who's Hot Who's Not" was used in a commercial for BE magazine featuring Paris Hilton, [13] and "Pop Culture" was used in a television commercial for Telus, and in an episode of the Food Network Canada cooking show, Chuck's Day Off . [14]

"Grace Kelly" is the second single by British singer Mika. It is the opening track on Mika's debut studio album Life in Cartoon Motion (2007). Produced and mixed by Greg Wells, the song entered the UK Singles Chart at number three and the UK Official Download Chart at number one. One week later, it jumped to the top of the UK Singles Chart on download sales alone, the second song to do so after Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" the previous year. The track was number one on the UK Singles Chart for five weeks, and ended 2007 as the year's third biggest-selling single in that country. In the US, "Grace Kelly" was made available for digital download on 16 January 2007. This song was also No. 89 on MTV Asia's list of Top 100 Hits of 2007. It was designed to be a mocking satire of musicians who try to reinvent themselves to be popular.

Women was a Canadian indie rock band formed in Calgary in 2008. The group consisted of Patrick Flegel, Christopher Reimer, Matt Flegel and Mike Wallace. Their debut album Women was released on Chad VanGaalen's label Flemish Eye on July 8, 2008 in Canada and on Jagjaguwar in the United States on October 7, 2008. It was rumoured that the band broke up on October 29, 2010, after a fight on stage at a show at the Lucky Bar in Victoria, although their management stated that they had merely cancelled the rest of their tour.

The Glasspack is an American psychedelic punk rock band from Louisville, Kentucky, United States. The band was formed in 1999 by frontman and native Louisvillian "Dirty" Dave Johnson, in hopes of giving a better alternative to the classic and hard rock played over-and-over on the radio. The Glasspack has since recorded one garage EP, two garage albums, two studio albums, and numerous cover songs, as well as toured the U.S. relentlessly. Three of the LPs were released on Detroit's Small Stone Records. The band takes its name from the high-flow fiber-glass filled automobile muffler known as a glasspack, which are known for being louder than traditional mufflers.

Hollerado went on to release four studio albums, before disbanding in 2019. They were nominated for awards such as the Juno Award that included Best New Group Award at the 2011 Juno Awards.

Black Taxi is an American rock band that formed in Brooklyn, New York, United States, in 2007. The band is considered one of New York City's premier live acts, and consistently sells out venues along the East Coast. To date the band has released three full-length albums, Things of That Nature (2009), We Don't Know Any Better (2012), and Electroshock Death Grip (2014), and three extended plays. The music video for their song "Shoeshine" was named an official honoree in the 15th annual Webby Award selections.

Random Recipe is a Canadian musical group based in Montreal, Quebec. The band members are Frannie Holder, Fab, Vincent Legault, and Liu-Kong Ha. Although the band performs and records primarily in English, many of their songs contain Spanish and Italian lyrics. The band has toured in North and South America and Europe, and has released four albums of pop/folk/rap music.

Sloppy Jane is an American chamber pop / rock music band fronted by Haley Dahl based in Brooklyn, New York. The band released their breakthrough second studio album Madison in 2021, through Saddest Factory Records, an imprint owned by their former bassist Phoebe Bridgers. Dahl is known for her eccentric performance art style which used to include nudity.
