Fonovisa Records is an American Spanish language record label founded in 1984 by Guillermo Santiso as a subsidiary of Televisa. Its former name before being acquired by Televisa in 1984 was Profono Internacional, which was founded in 1978. Fonovisa mainly produces Mexican style music. It is well known for its signing with artists such as Los Tigres Del Norte, Los Bukis, Los Temerarios, Enrique Iglesias, Lucero and Thalía.

Cumbia rap is a spin-off of the original cumbia genre. It consists of a more traditional Colombian rhythm, as well as some hip hop and reggae type additions. Pioneers of cumbia rap include Crooked Stilo from Los Angeles, El Gran Silencio from Nuevo Leon, Santa Fe Klan from Guanajuato, Chicos de Barrio from Coahuila, in Argentina, as well as the Kumbia Kings from Texas.

Los Angeles de Charly is a mexican cumbia group led by vocalist Carlos Becies. The group was formed in 1999, after Charly Becies and fellow vocalists Guillermo "Memo" Palafox and Jonathan Martínez left the popular group Los Ángeles Azules and have become one of leading exporters of the romantic Mexican cumbia genre. In 2000, the group's ten-track album Un Sueño peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart. Their follow-up album Te Voy a Enamorar was released in 2001 and went to number-one on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart.

Mobb Deep was an American hip hop duo from New York City, formed in 1991. Their best-known albums are The Infamous (1995), Hell on Earth (1996) and Murda Muzik (1999), and their most successful singles were "Shook Ones " and "Survival of the Fittest." They were known for their dark and hardcore delivery.
Ricardo Emmanuel Brown, better known by his stage name Kurupt, is an American rapper and record producer who aided gangsta rap's rise via 1990s verses helping set lasting trends. He is one half of the rap duo Tha Dogg Pound, along with Daz Dillinger. His first solo album was released in 1998. After feuding, the duo reunited in 2005.
Univision Music Group was a Latin music company in the United States. Reyes del Bajo Mundo is a Salvadoran hip hop group. The group was formed in 1992 and is conformed by Cruz Control and Douglas Dinamico. A third member named Rey de Reyes left the group due to immigration problems. They are considered to be the original hip hop pioneers of El Salvador and the first group to bring Salvadoran hip hop to mainstream radio, television, and newspapers, with their release of Estilo Impereal in 1997 under their own independent label. They were followed by PESCOZADA and later by Crooked Stilo. They are also the only Salvadoran group in New York to have shared the stage with Rebel Diaz, Sadat X, Immortal Technique, R.A. Ruggedman, Joel Ortiz, Control Machete, Orishas, EL MESWY, Los Rabanes, MALA RODRIGUEZ, AKWID, and others during their career. RDBM also originated in Far Rockaway, Queens, and Douglas attended Far Rockaway High School.

Los Ángeles Azules are a Mexican musical group that plays the cumbia sonidera genre, which is a cumbia subgenre using the accordion and synthesizers. This results in a fusion of the sounds of cumbia from the 1950-1970s with those of 1990s-style electronic music.
