Crosby Mpoxo Moni (died 21 December 2013) was a South African politician and trade union leader who served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2011 until his death in 2013. Moni was a member of the African National Congress and the South African Communist Party.
Moni worked as a mineworker at the Matla Colliery in present-day Mpumalanga alongside future African National Congress politician Gwede Mantashe. [1] Moni joined the National Union of Mineworkers in 1982. He was first a shop steward for the union,before gradually moving up the union's leadership ranks until he became the national deputy president of the union. He retired from the union in 2009. [1] Moni also served on the Central Committee of the South African Communist Party,and was active in Mpumalanga politics,serving as the deputy provincial chairperson of the ANC. He also assisted in the rebuilding of South African National Organisation structures. [2]
Moni joined the National Assembly of South Africa in 2011 and represented Benoni on the East Rand as a member of the ANC. [2] In parliament,he was a member of the basic education and higher education portfolio committees. [3]
Moni contracted malaria during a visit to Mozambique in December 2013 and died from it on 21 December 2013. [4] He is survived by his wife,three sons and two daughters. [4] NUM and the South African Democratic Teachers Union both released statements in which they mourned Moni. [1] [5]
Samson Gwede Mantashe is a South African politician and former trade unionist who is currently serving as the Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources. He has been responsible for the mineral resources portfolio since February 2018,formerly as Minister of Mineral Resources from February 2018 to May 2019 and then as Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy from May 2019 to June 2024. He is also serving his second term as the national chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC).
There have been many political assassinations in post-apartheid South Africa. In 2013 it was reported that there had been more than 450 political assassinations in the province of KwaZulu-Natal since the end of apartheid in 1994. In July 2013 the Daily Maverick reported that there had been "59 political murders in the last five years". In August 2016 it was reported that there had been at least twenty political assassinations in the run up to the local government elections on the 3rd of August that year,most of them in KwaZulu-Natal.

Sikhumbuzo Eric Kholwane is a South African politician and lawyer who served as the Mpumalanga MEC for Finance,Economic Development and Tourism from May 2014 to May 2019. He was also a member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature during that time. From 2011 to 2016 she was the deputy mayor of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality. In 2018,Shabalala was sworn in as a member of the National Assembly.

Majuba was the deputy speaker of the provincial legislature between March 2018 and May 2019.
James Jim "JJ" Skosana was a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress,he served in the South African National Assembly from May 2009 to February 2018,when he became a member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature. In March 2021 Skosana was elected as the deputy speaker of the provincial legislature.

Fezeka Sister Loliwe was a South African politician and African National Congress member who served as a member of the National Assembly of South Africa between 2014 and her death in 2018. She was chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Labour at the time of her death. Loliwe was also a member of the South African Communist Party and served on the party's Central Committee.

Priscilla Sindisiwe Sekgobela is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2009,serving the Mpumalanga constituency. She returned for a brief second term from January to May 2014.
Sylvia Motlagomang "Mamza" Benjamin was a South African trade unionist and anti-apartheid activist. She was the treasurer of the National Union of Mineworkers from 1985 to 1987 and was the first woman to serve on the union's executive. After the end of apartheid,she represented the African National Congress (ANC) as a local councillor in Matlosana,North West from 1994 to 2005,and she was a member of the national executive of the ANC Veterans' League at the time of her death in 2012.
