Crossroads Center is a shopping mall located in Waterloo, Iowa, United States. It was built in 1970 as one of the first malls in Iowa. It has five vacant anchors formerly occupied by Sears, Dillard's, Gordmans, Younkers, and At Home. It is owned by Namdar Realty Group. It is located in the heart of a retail hub that includes a 12 screen theater, Best Buy, Super Target (opened 2000), Walmart, Barnes & Noble, and many other national tenants. The mall is located near the interchange of Interstate 380 and U.S. Highway 20.

History

Crossroads Center Inc. announced plans for the mall in 1967, along with two other malls of the same name: one in St. Cloud, Minnesota and one in Fort Dodge, Iowa. [2]

The Sears anchor store opened first, on March 24, 1969. [3] The mall itself opened one year later, in March 1970, as both the only two-story mall [4] and the first enclosed mall in Iowa. [5] The JCPenney anchor store opened along with the mall, [6] as did Black's department store. [7] Black's became Donaldson's in 1978 and then Carson Pirie Scott in 1987. The store closed on September 30, 1989.

The upper level of the JCPenney anchor store was converted to a Herberger's anchor store in 1989. In 1991, Sears rented a 57,000 sq ft portion of its anchor store to become a Phar-Mor pharmacy. In 1993, 1/2 Price Store (later renamed Gordmans) took over that space. [8] Herberger's was renamed Younkers in 1997. [9] The mall was renovated in 1997 at a cost of $4 million. At the same time, Dillard's constructed a new 155,000 sq ft anchor store connected to the mall, at a cost of $20 million, rather than leasing space. The Dillard's anchor store opened on August 13, 1997. [10] All 1/2 Price Store locations were renamed Gordmans in 2000. [11]

On January 8, 2015, it was announced that JCPenney would close, as part of a plan to close 39 locations nationwide. [12] At Home replaced the store in 2016. [13] On January 4, 2018, it was announced that Sears would close, as part of a plan to close 103 stores nationwide. The store closed in April 2018. [14] On April 18, 2018, Younkers parent company, the Bon-Ton, announced they would be completely liquidating and closing all stores including the one at Crossroads. The store closed on August 29, 2018. [15] On May 11, 2020, Gordmans announced that it would be closing as the parent company is also going out of business. [16] Just eight days later, Dillard's announced that this location would close. [17] This left At Home as the only traditional anchor store. On August 2, 2023, it was announced that At Home would be closing by November 2023, which left the mall with no anchors. [18]

Westdale Mall was an enclosed super-regional shopping mall in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United States. The two-level mall on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids is one of the city's two enclosed malls, along with Lindale Mall on the city's northeast side. By 2012, Westdale displayed some characteristics of a dead mall as two of its four anchor stores and an estimated 70 percent of inline stores have been vacated as of January 2013. At the beginning of 2013, local investor group A. Shapiro LLC purchased Westdale Mall. In January 2013, Frew Development Group, LLC leased the mall and its property from A. Shapiro, LLC. Frew Development is investing $90 million into the redevelopment of the mall, converting it to an open air destination and re-branding it as Westdale Town Center. In 2020, Frew Development Group, LLC acquired the ground lease from A. Shapiro, LLC and today is the sole owner of Westdale Town Center. Parkdale Mall is a mall located in Beaumont, Texas that opened in 1973. The owner of Parkdale Mall is CBL & Associates Properties, Inc. The mall's anchor stores include a Dick's Sporting Goods and Field & Stream combo Store, Dillard's, Five Below, Forever 21, HomeGoods, and JCPenney. Another anchor, Macy's, closed in March 2017. The former Macy's became a combination between the Dick's Sporting Goods and Field & Stream combo store, HomeGoods, and Five Below. KBTV-TV, the Beaumont-Port Arthur Fox affiliate, used to broadcast inside the mall, but now broadcasts at the KFDM studios. In addition, a Tilt Studio location opened in early 2017. Former anchors, Stage and Sears both closed in 2020. The Stage closed due to bankruptcy, and the Sears due to company downsizing.

Conestoga Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Grand Island, Nebraska. It was opened in 1974 and is owned by Woodsonia Real Estate. The mall's anchor store is Best Buy. Previous anchor stores included Sears, Dillard's, Younkers and JCPenney.

Richland Mall is a 708,249-square-foot (65,798.5 m2) regional shopping mall in Waco, Texas owned by CBL & Associates Properties located on 77 acres (31 ha). The mall opened in 1980. It has 95 stores with five anchors. The anchor stores are JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods, 2 Dillard's stores, Tilt Studio, and Shoe Dept. There is one vacant anchor store that was once Dillard's.

Cache Valley Mall is a shopping mall located in Logan, Utah that opened in 1976. The mall has no anchors, with three vacant anchors last occupied by C-A-L Ranch, Herberger's and JCPenney. The mall is owned by Namdar Realty Group.
