The curling competition of the 2009 New Zealand Winter Games was held at the Maniototo Curling Rink in Naseby, New Zealand. Both the men's and women's competitions concluded on 29 August 2009. In the men's event Australia won gold after defeating China in the final, while in the women's event Japan won the gold, also beating China in the final.
The curling competition was held from 23 August to 29 August 2009 at the Maniototo Curling Rink in Naseby, New Zealand. It comprised a men's competition and a women's competition. Following the finals of both competitions an on-ice closing ceremony and medal presentation was held and then later an awards dinner. [1]
The men's competition comprised a single round-robin format followed by a playoff round. Each team competed once against the other nations. At the end of the seven game each round-robin the top four nations progress to the playoff round. [1] Japan, South Korea and Australia qualified after finishing first, second and third respectively. The fourth team through had to be determined with a tie-breaker game after China and the United States finished the round-robin finished with the same number of wins. China won the tie-breaker 9–6 and advanced to the semi-final. [1] In the first semi-final Australia was drawn against South Korea. Australia won the semi-final 8–5 and progressed to the gold medal final while South Korea moved to the bronze medal final. China won the second semi-final against Japan with a score of 11–3, moving on to the gold medal final and Japan to the bronze medal final. Japan defeated South Korea in the bronze medal game 10–7 while in the gold medal game Australia defeated China 9–6. [1] [2]
The women's competition comprised a double round-robin format followed by a playoff round. Each team competed twice against the other nations. At the end of the eight game each round-robin the top four nations progress to the playoff round. [1] China finished first in the round-robin and was drawn against fourth place New Zealand, while second placed Japan was drawn against South Korea. In the first semi-final Japan defeated South Korea 6–5 with Japan advancing to the gold medal final and South Korea moving on to the bronze medal final. [1] China won the second semi-final defeating New Zealand with a score of 7–4 to move on to the gold medal game and New Zealand moved on to the bronze medal game. South Korea defeated New Zealand in the bronze medal game 12–7 while in the gold medal game Japan defeated China 8–5. [1] [2]

Anna Ohmiya is a Japanese curler from Sapporo, Hokkaido. She is the second on the FORTIUS curling team, which won the Japan Curling Championships in both 2015 and 2021. She also won the national championship in 2008, 2009 and 2010 as a member of Team Aomori. She competed for Japan at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, placing eighth. At the international level, she has represented Japan at four World Women's Curling Championship and six Pacific-Asia Curling Championships in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2014 and 2021, winning the gold medal in 2021.
Anna Vladimirovna Sidorova is a Russian curler. She currently skips her own team. Sidorova was the skip of the Russian team that won bronze medals at the World Women's Curling Championships from 2014 to 2016 and the silver medal at the 2017 World Women's Curling Championship.
The 2011 Le Gruyère European Curling Championships were held in Moscow, Russia from December 2 to 10. The Group C competitions were held from September 30 to October 8 in Tårnby, Denmark.

Gim Eun-ji also known as Gim Un-chi is a Korean curler from Uijeongbu. She currently skips the Gyeonggi Province curling team.
Yumi Suzuki is a Japanese curler. She currently plays second for Team Loco Solare, which is skipped by Satsuki Fujisawa. The team won the bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics and a silver medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Yurika Yoshida is a Japanese curler. She currently plays lead for Team Loco Solare, which is skipped by Satsuki Fujisawa. The team won the bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics and the silver medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Kim Min-ji is a South Korean curler. She currently plays third on the Gyeonggi Province curling team skipped by Gim Eun-ji. She is a 2018 Pacific-Asia Curling champion.
Galina Petrovna Arsenkina is a retired Russian curler from Moscow. She competed at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics as the second on the Olympic Athletes from Russia and Russian Olympic Committee women's curling teams, skipped by Victoria Moiseeva and Alina Kovaleva respectively. She won two medals at the World Women's Curling Championship: a silver in 2021 and a bronze in 2018. She was also the second on Team Moiseeva when they won the 2016 European Curling Championships.
Kim Kyeong-ae, nicknamed "Steak" is a South Korean curler. She currently plays third on Team Kim Eun-jung. The Kim team represented South Korea at the 2018 Winter Olympics, where they won a silver medal.
Kim Seon-yeong, nicknamed "Sunny" is a South Korean curler. She was the second, but now plays lead on Team Kim Eun-jung. The Kim team represented South Korea at the 2018 Winter Olympics, where they won a silver medal.
Stefania Constantini is an Italian curler from Cortina d'Ampezzo. She currently skips the Italian National Women's Curling Team. She has played in five World Championships, and six European Championships. She won a silver medal at the 2023 European Curling Championships, a bronze medal at the 2017 European Curling Championships and a gold medal in mixed doubles at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
Zou Qiang is a Chinese curler from Harbin. He currently plays third on the Chinese men's curling team skipped by Xu Xiaoming.
Chiaki Matsumura is a Japanese curler from Nagano. She was a longtime member of the Chubu Electric Power curling team from 2012 to 2023. With the team, she won five Japan Curling Championships in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2019. At the international level, she has represented Japan three times at the World Women's Curling Championship and three times at the Pacific-Asia Curling Championships, winning a silver medal in both 2012 and 2019.
Yang Tae-i is a South Korean curler from Uijeongbu. She currently plays second on the Chuncheon City Hall curling team, skipped by Ha Seung-youn. While playing with Kim Min-ji, she won a gold medal at the 2018 Pacific-Asia Curling Championships and a silver medal at the 2020 World Junior Curling Championships.
