Curtis Cornelious is an American politician who currently serves as mayor of Little Elm,Texas. He was first elected as mayor in June 2021,making him the first black mayor in Little Elm's history,which was noted as a significant event in the town's history. [1] [2]
Curtis Cornelious served on Little Elm Town Council in the place 1 (at-large) seat from 2009 to 2020. As a result of his first win in 2009,Cornelious became the first African-American elected to town council.
During his time on town council,Little Elm quickly became one of the fastest growing towns in the DFW metroplex,going from a population of 3,000 to 53,000 in just those 11 years. [2]
In 2021,Cornelious vacated his town council seat and ran for mayor. Following the May municipal election,Cornelious advanced to the June runoff election,where he went on to win against opponent Ken Eaken. Cornelious was sworn in shortly after. [3]

In 2000,the census population was at 3,646. By the 2010 census,the city total had jumped to 25,898,making Little Elm one of the fastest-growing municipalities by percentage in Texas since 2000.

He was elected in 2006 to represent District 63 in southwestern Denton County. Parker sought the position of Texas House Speaker with the retirement of Joe Straus but then withdrew his candidacy in 2018 to support the consensus choice,Representative Dennis Bonnen of Angleton in Brazoria County. As of 2022,Parker was elected to represent senate district 12,and will continue his public service as a State Senator.

The 2021 Fort Worth mayoral election was held on Saturday,May 1,2021,to decide the mayor of Fort Worth,Texas. Incumbent mayor Betsy Price,who had served as the city's mayor since 2011,announced on January 6,2021,that she would not seek a sixth term. Ten candidates ran in the primary election. Early voting in person began on April 19,2021. Since no candidate received a majority of the vote on May 1,the top two finishers,Democrat Deborah Peoples and Republican Mattie Parker,advanced to a June 5,2021 runoff election. Parker won the runoff and was elected mayor.

The 2022 Shreveport mayoral election took place on November 8,2022,with a runoff election on December 10 because no candidate obtained a majority of the vote in the first round. It selected the next mayor of Shreveport,Louisiana. Incumbent Democratic mayor Adrian Perkins sought re-election to a second term in office,but finished fourth in the general election. Former Shreveport City Councillor Tom Arceneaux,a Republican,and Louisiana state senator Gregory Tarver,a Democrat,advanced to the runoff election. Besides Perkins,other candidates eliminated in the general election include Caddo Parish Commission president Mario Chavez and city councillor LeVette Fuller.
