Yang Li-tsing (born 13 December 1968), better known internationally by her stage name Cynthia Khan, is a Taiwanese actress, dancer and martial artist. She starred in many Hong Kong girls with guns films.

Early life

Yang studied Chinese and jazz dance at school. At 17, she won a national talent contest run by a Taiwanese television station. She later learned taekwondo and achieved a high level in this martial art. [ citation needed ]

Career

In 1987, Yang made her film debut in In the Line of Duty 3. The film's box office success started her long career. Sequels and other films followed, many of them in the girls with guns genre, most notably In the Line of Duty 4: Witness, directed and choreographed by Yuen Woo-ping and co-starring Donnie Yen. She now lives in Taiwan.

Origin of stage name

Her screen name is a combination of the names of established Hong Kong stars Cynthia Rothrock and Michelle Yeoh (then known as Michelle Khan), whom she replaced in the In the Line of Duty movie series. [1]

In the Line of Duty, sometimes referred to as the Yes Madam series, is a series of girls with guns feature films produced by Hong Kong movie studio D & B Films which star, in the first two, Michelle Yeoh and, in subsequent installments, Cynthia Khan as a Royal Hong Kong Police Force officer who combines use of firearms with Kickboxing. The film Royal Warriors would be exported with the title In the Line of Duty and, due to its success, the film Yes Madam!, released one year prior, was retitled In the Line of Duty II: The Police Assassins as an export. Due to the overwhelming financial achievement of the films under the In the Line of Duty titles, D & B would start utilizing the In the Line of Duty title in their native Hong Kong market, with the third film being the first to originally use the In the Line of Duty name, which in turn would be retroactively applied to the two Michelle Yeoh vehicles. This would continue with the fourth entry before the series would revert to using individual unique titles.
