Cyril Maurice George (died 6 January 2022) was a South African politician who represented the National Party (NP) and New National Party (NNP) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 1999. He later served as a local councillor in eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, representing variously the NNP, the Democratic Alliance (DA), and the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP).

Political career

George was born in 1947 or 1948 and was formerly an educator. [1] He was elected to the National Assembly in the 1994 general election, representing the NP; [2] he served a single term and left after the 1999 general election.

He later served as a local councillor in Durban's eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality. He crossed the floor twice: initially elected as a representative of the DA, he defected back to the NNP in October 2002 [3] and then from the NNP to the ACDP in September 2004. [4] He remained with the ACDP thereafter. [5] [1]

Personal life

George was married to Brenda George (née Young), with whom he had three children and several grandchildren. [1] He was Christian and lived in Sydenham, Durban after his retirement. [1] He died on 6 January 2022, aged 74, due to complications from COVID-19. [1]

Gerhardus Willem Koornhof is a South African politician and economist who serves as the Parliamentary Counsellor to President Cyril Ramaphosa. When Ramaphosa served as deputy president, Koornhof was his parliament counsellor. An MP since 1994, Koornhof currently represents the African National Congress, though he previously represented United Democratic Movement between 1999 and 2003 and the National Party/New National Party before that.

Adriaan Hermanus "Maans" Nel is a South African politician who served in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2009, representing the Northern Cape. He was a member of the National Party (NP) and New National Party (NNP) until March 2003, when he crossed the floor to the Democratic Alliance (DA).

Paulina Wilhelmina "Pauline" Cupido is a South African politician who served in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament from 2003 to 2012, representing the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) from 2004 onwards. She was also the ACDP's provincial leader in the Western Cape until 2012, when she left to join the Democratic Alliance (DA).

Barend Leendert "Boy" Geldenhuys is a retired South African politician and diplomat who represented the National Party (NP) and New National Party (NNP) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2004. He served as the leader of the NNP caucus from 2002 to 2004. After losing his seat in the 2004 general election, he was appointed as South African Ambassador to Jordan. A former minister in the Dutch Reformed Church, Geldenhuys also represented the NP in the apartheid-era House of Assembly.

Renier Stephanus Schoeman is a South African politician, businessman and former civil servant who represented the National Party (NP) and New National Party (NNP) in Parliament from 1985 to 2004. He was the provincial leader of the NNP in KwaZulu-Natal from 1999 until the party's demise.

Emanuel Andreas "Manie" Schoeman is a South African politician who served in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2009, excepting a brief hiatus from 2000 to 2001. He represented the National Party (NP) and New National Party (NNP) until September 2000 and the African National Congress (ANC) thereafter.

He had been an organiser for the NP since the apartheid era and was a former deputy leader of the NNP in the Western Cape.

Izak Jacobus "Sakkie" Pretorius is a retired South African politician from the Western Cape. He served in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2004, representing the Western Cape constituency. He was later elected as a local councillor in the City of Cape Town.

Lukas Marthinus Meyer is a South African politician who has been a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature since May 2019, representing the Democratic Alliance. Meyer had previously served as a DA councillor in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality from 2011 to 2019.

Willem Adriaan Odendaal is a retired South African politician from the Free State. He represented the National Party (NP) and New National Party (NNP) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2004.
