Cyril Paglino (born 1986) is a French breakdancer, reality TV personality and IT entrepreneur who has founded and invested in several startup companies. [1] [2] [3]

Business career

Paglino founded the digital communication agency, Wizee in 2011. [4] [5] [6] [7] Later in 2013, he sold it to Change Group. [1] He also co-founded Pleek, a picture messaging application that allows its users to communicate via images. [8]

Paglino has invested in 30 technology startups to date. In 2015, he founded Tribe, a video messaging app, backed by investments from Sequoia Capital and KPCB. [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17]

Entertainment career

Paglino worked in the breakdance band Legiteam Obstruxion and was crowned champion of France in 2006, 2007 and 2008. He won the world title in 2007. [1] [18] [19] He is a former vice-world champion of breakdancing. [18] [19]

Paglino was a cast member on reality TV show Secret Story 2, playing alongside Alexandra. [1] [18] [19]

HipChat Web service for internal/private chat

HipChat was a web service for internal private online chat and instant messaging. As well as one-on-one and group/topic chat, it also featured cloud-based file storage, video calling, searchable message-history and inline-image viewing. The software was available to download onto computers running Windows, Mac or Linux, as well as Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. Since 2014, HipChat used a freemium model, as much of the service was free with some additional features requiring organizations to pay per month. HipChat was launched in 2010 and acquired by Atlassian in 2012. In September 2017, Atlassian replaced the cloud-based HipChat with a new cloud product called Stride, with HipChat continuing on as the client-hosted HipChat Data Center.

Kik Messenger, commonly called Kik, is a freeware instant messaging mobile app from the Canadian company Kik Interactive, available free of charge on iOS and Android operating systems. It uses a smartphone's data plan or Wi-Fi to transmit and receive messages, photos, videos, sketches, mobile web pages, and other content after users register a username. Kik is known for its features preserving users' anonymity, such as allowing users to register without the need to provide a telephone number or valid email address. However, the application does not employ end-to-end encryption, and the company also logs user IP addresses, which could be used to determine the user's ISP and approximate location. WhatsApp's client application runs on mobile devices but is also accessible from desktop computers, as long as the user's mobile device remains connected to the Internet while they use the desktop app. The service requires users to provide a standard cellular mobile number for registering with the service. In January 2018, WhatsApp released a standalone business app targeted at small business owners, called WhatsApp Business, to allow companies to communicate with customers who use the standard WhatsApp client.

Google Hangouts is a cross-platform messaging app developed by Google. Originally a feature of Google+, Hangouts became a stand-alone product in 2013, when Google also began integrating features from Google+ Messenger and Google Talk into Hangouts. In 2017, Google began developing Hangouts into a product aimed at enterprise communication, splitting into two products: Google Meet and Google Chat. Google has also begun integrating features of Google Voice, its IP telephony product, into Hangouts, stating that Hangouts is designed to be "the future" of Voice. Google began transitioning users from the "classic" version of Hangouts to Meet and Chat in June 2020, and announced in October 2020 that Google Chat would eventually be made free to consumers and fully replace Hangouts, shortly after Google Meet became free as well. Google Hangouts will remain a consumer-level product for people using standard Google accounts.
