D. Selvaraj was an Indian politician and a Member of the Legislative Assembly, representing Udumalpet Constituency in the 11th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly between 1996 and 2001 as a DMK member. ^{[1] [2] [3]} He defeated Mr. Shanmugavelu by a margin of 24,230 votes, but lost the 2001 election to Mr. Shanmugavelu by 39,368. ^[4]

He was often referred to by the press and in political circles as Bodipatti Thambu Nayakar in accordance with local custom. ^{[5] [6] [7] [8]} The Bodipatti Thambu Nagar township is named in his honor.^{[ failed verification ][ citation needed ] [9] [10]} He was Thiru Vikram's maternal grandfather.^{[ failed verification ][ citation needed ] [10]}
