DIY is a United Kingdom-based music publication, in print and online. Its free print edition is released monthly with a physical circulation of 40,000 in UK venues, clubs and shops. [1]
DIY was launched in 2002 by then-editor Stephen Ackroyd & Emma Swann as an online-only publication called This Is Fake DIY, named after a song by Scottish indie pop band Bis and staffed largely by a freelance writing team from around the globe. The website features news, reviews and features.
In September 2007, DIY was nominated for Best Music Magazine at the annual BT Digital Music Awards, where it was described as "a great mix of humour and pop culture that has become the envy of the internet." [2]
In April 2011, DIY started a free monthly music magazine. Cover acts have included Paramore, Mumford and Sons, Biffy Clyro, Jamie xx, Years & Years, Wolf Alice, LCD Soundsystem, Fall Out Boy, and Bastille (full list below).
On 11 March 2013, DIY started a weekly magazine in addition to the print title, published via tablet computer and iPhone - this was later pulled in favour of limited edition, one-off titles. [3] Superfood and METZ have both released limited edition 'zines' in collaboration with DIY as part of this.
In June 2014, DIY rebranded, dropping the "This Is Fake" and launching its new URL - diymag.com.
DIY also host live shows across the UK under the name DIY Presents.
Every year, they host a run of shows under the Hello moniker, previewing new acts at London's The Old Blue Last. Previous acts to play at DIY's Hello shows include Wolf Alice, Girl Band and Spring King.
October 2014 saw DIY team up with PledgeMusic for the first UK-wide DIY Presents tour, [4] culminating in an all-dayer held at London venue The Laundry on 1 November. The tour was opened by local acts, as picked via fan-vote, and headlined by Shy Nature and Flyte. The all-dayer was headlined by JAWS, and featured Menace Beach, Spring King, Hinds and many more. [5]
In the autumn of 2015, DIY's new music arm Neu hosted the DIY Presents Neu Tour 2015, which saw VANT, The Big Moon and Inheaven tour the country, culmating in a London date at Camden's Dingwalls.
In 2007 DIY started a record label. Its roster included Duels, Heads We Dance, Manda Rin, Model Horror, Love Ends Disaster!, Popular Workshop, The Research, The Victorian English Gentlemens Club, We Are The Physics and You Animals.

The Cribs are a British indie rock band originally from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, that formed in 2001. The band consists of twins Gary and Ryan Jarman and their younger brother Ross Jarman. They were subsequently joined by ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, who was an official member of the group from 2008 until 2011.

We Are Scientists is a New York City-based rock band that formed in Berkeley, California, in 1999. It consists primarily of guitarist and vocalist Keith Murray and bass guitarist Chris Cain, with drummer Keith Carne joining the band in the studio and for live performances since 2013.
Jack Hayter is a British musician. He is best known as a multi instrumentalist with Hefner but is also an acclaimed folk singer-songwriter in his own right. Hayter also played with alt-country band Spongefinger and folktronica band Dollboy. Hayter is also frequently used as a session pedal steel guitar player in the London alternative scene.
Creeper are an English rock band from Southampton. Formed in 2014, the group originally featured vocalist Will Gould, guitarists Ian Miles and Sina Nemati, bassist Sean Scott, and drummer Dan Bratton. The band independently released their self-titled debut EP in 2014, before signing with Roadrunner Records and issuing follow-up The Callous Heart the next year. At the end of 2015, Nemati was replaced by Oliver Burdett and touring keyboardist/second vocalist Hannah Greenwood became an official band member. A third EP, The Stranger, was released in 2016 and reached the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart top ten.
¡Forward, Russia! are an English rock band from Leeds, active between 2004 and 2008, before re-forming in 2013. The band's debut album, Give Me a Wall, was released in 2006. Until 2006, the band only named tracks with numbers, in the order that they were written. The band had used faux Cyrillic, with its name occasionally typeset as ¡FФЯWДЯD, RUSSIД!. The band went on hiatus after the release of their second album, Life Processes, in 2008. They re-formed in 2013 for a show at the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds in November 2013 for its 10th anniversary, and then played the Live at Leeds Festival at Leeds Town Hall in 2014.
All Time Low is an American rock band from Towson, Maryland, formed in 2003. Consisting of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Alex Gaskarth, lead guitarist Jack Barakat, bassist/backing vocalist Zack Merrick, and drummer Rian Dawson, the band took its name from lyrics in the song "Head on Collision" by New Found Glory. The band has consistently done year-long tours, headlined numerous tours, and has appeared at music festivals including Warped Tour, Reading and Leeds, and Soundwave.

Wolf Alice are an English rock band from London, England. Formed in 2010 as an acoustic duo comprising singer Ellie Rowsell and guitarist Joff Oddie, Wolf Alice have also featured bassist Theo Ellis and drummer Joel Amey since 2012.
Mallory Knox are an English alternative rock band from Cambridge. In 2013, they released their debut album Signals which reached #33 in the UK album charts. Their second album Asymmetry was released on 27 October 2014 and reached #16 on UK Album Chart. They later released their third album Wired on 10 March 2017. Their fourth record, Mallory Knox, was released on 16 August 2019, after which they announced a farewell tour.
Louisa Rose Allen, known professionally as Foxes, is an English singer, songwriter, and model. After her debut single "Youth" was noticed by Zedd in 2012, she was featured on the song "Clarity", which peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. She has since released three albums: Glorious (2014), All I Need (2016), The Kick (2022) as well as two EPs: Warrior (2012) and Friends in the Corner (2021). She has achieved commercial success with the singles "Youth", "Let Go for Tonight", "Holding onto Heaven", "Body Talk", and "Amazing".

My Love Is Cool is the debut studio album by English alternative rock band Wolf Alice. It was released on 22 June 2015 in the United Kingdom by Dirty Hit and on 23 June 2015 in the United States by RCA Records. The album includes the previously released singles "Bros" and "Fluffy" in re-recorded versions, and was preceded by the songs "Giant Peach" and "You're a Germ". The song "Moaning Lisa Smile", which originally appeared on the band's 2014 EP Creature Songs, peaked at number nine on the US Billboard Alternative Songs chart, and was also included on the US edition of the album. While not a single, the song "Silk" appeared on the soundtrack of T2 Trainspotting, peaking at number 39 on the Scottish charts in 2017.

The Big Moon are a British indie rock band, formed in 2014 in London by frontwoman Juliette Jackson. Their debut album, Love in the 4th Dimension, was released on 6 April 2017, containing a number of tracks previously released on their EP The Road. The album was shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2017. They are signed to Fiction Records and have toured internationally. They supported Pixies on their 2019 UK tour.

Remi Francis Wolf is an American singer and songwriter from Palo Alto, California. As a senior in high school, she appeared as a contestant on American Idol in 2014. After completing her undergraduate music studies in 2018, she made her solo debut with the self-released extended play You're a Dog! in October 2019. Wolf subsequently released her second EP and major-label debut, I'm Allergic to Dogs!, on Island Records and Virgin EMI Records in June 2020, followed by her debut studio album, Juno, in October 2021. She released her second album, Big Ideas, on July 12, 2024.
Matthew Jonathan Gordon Maltese is a British-Canadian singer-songwriter and record producer. His style blends elements from indie pop, indie rock, and chamber pop. Since releasing his debut single "Even If It's a Lie" in 2015, Maltese has released four studio albums, and four EPs. In July 2021, Maltese announced his third studio album, Good Morning It's Now Tomorrow; the album was released in October 2021 via Nettwerk, the label he is currently signed with. Maltese released his fourth studio album, Driving Just to Drive in April 2023.
