Dakinir Char (Island of Witch) is a Bengali crime thriller film directed and produced by Premendra Mitra based on the story of Mitra in the same name. [1] [2] This film was released on 28 January 1955 [3] [4] under the banner of Chitrani Films. [5] [6]

Premendra Mitra was an Indian poet, writer and film director in the Bengali language. He was also a practitioner of Bengali science fiction. His critique of humanity led him to believe that for it to survive, human beings had to "forget their differences and be united".

Sombhu Mitra was an Indian film and stage actor, director, playwright, reciter and an Indian theatre personality, known especially for his involvement in Bengali theatre, where he is considered a pioneer. He remained associated with the Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) for a few years before founding the Bohurupee theatre group in Kolkata in 1948. Ghanashyam Das alias Ghanada, the protagonist of the Ghanada series of science fiction novels written in Bengali, is a fictional character created by Premendra Mitra in 1945. In the novels, the character fights evil and stands against international terrorism. The far-fetched stories take place in multiple international locations, and across a historical timeline. He is depicted regularly outwitting his fellow boarders of the mess-bari at 72, Banamali Naskar Lane, Kolkata (Calcutta). Ghanada was a personification of Premendra Mitra's anti-fascist humanistic ideologies and moral universe. His stories were notably accurate from a historical, geographical and scientific standpoint.

Arghyakamal Mitra is an Indian film editor who primarily works in Bengali films. He collaborated with some acclaimed directors like Aparna Sen, Rituparno Ghosh, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Suman Mukhopadhyay, Anjan Dutta, Anik Dutta, Soukarya Ghosal and Bauddhayan Mukherji. He has won the National Film Award for Best Editing for his work in Rituparno Ghosh's film Abohomaan.
