The Las Vegas Strip is a stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard South in Clark County, Nevada, that is known for its concentration of resort hotels and casinos. The Strip, as it is known, is about 4.2 mi (6.8 km) long, and is immediately south of the Las Vegas city limits in the unincorporated towns of Paradise and Winchester, but is often referred to simply as "Las Vegas".

The name was given to the last in the chain of four lakes, Katepwa Lake. Legend has it that spirits inhabited the shores of the lake and First Nation people would hear voices on the lake.

In August 2013, WinStar Resorts completed a major expansion project, which added a new 1000-room second hotel tower that was divided into two phases; this also added a new casino that is attached to the tower. The community is situated on the southern shore of White Bear (Carlyle) Lake on a forested plateau called Moose Mountain Upland. On 31 December 1972, Carlyle Lake Resort was dissolved as a village; it was restructured as a hamlet under the jurisdiction of the Reservation of White Bear Band on that date. The hamlet is located about 14 km north of the town of Carlyle on highway 9.
