Damien Blair (born 1972/73) is the men's head basketball coach at West Chester University.

Early life and education

Blair attended The Haverford School and was coached by Mike Mersky. As a junior, he averaged 19 points per game and earned first-team All-Inter-Ac honors. [1] He began playing for West Chester University in 1991 after being contacted by the coach and taking a visit. During his sophomore season, Blair missed a last-second shot to lose a game that, if they won, would have qualified the Golden Rams for the NCAA Division II Tournament. As a junior, he set the West Chester record for most three-pointers in a season with 125. [2] He averaged 21.8 points per game, and had two games scoring more than 30 points. [3] Blair was named PSAC East player of the year in 1994 and 1995. [4] Blair finished his career as the second-leading scorer in school history with 2,025 points. He graduated from West Chester with a degree in physical education. [2] Blair had a brief stint playing for the Delaware Blue Bombers of the United States Basketball League and tried out for the Philadelphia 76ers in 1995. In 2001, he was inducted into the Messikomer Men's Basketball Hall of Fame at West Chester University. [4]

Coaching career

Blair began his coaching career at Downingtown West High School in 1998. He led the team to four appearances in the state playoffs. [5] In the 2007–08 season, he led Downingtown West to its first-ever Ches-Mont League title and an appearance in the Class AAAA playoffs after defeating Coatesville High School. In July 2008, he was named the head coach at West Chester, succeeding Dick DeLaney, who retired after 21 seasons. [6] He finished with a 173–78 record at Downingtown West. [4]

In his first season at West Chester, Blair led the team to an 18–10 overall record including 9–5 in conference play, third in the Eastern Division and helped the team reach the quarterfinals of the PSAC tournament. [4] Blair helped the Golden Rams reach the 2012, 2014 and 2016 PSAC Championship Games. [7] In 2018, Blair led West Chester to its first NCAA Tournament win in program history. The 2017–18 team finished 22–7 and were led by Malik Jackson's 19.2 points per game. [8] The following season, the team again reached the NCAA Tournament and finished 22–9, capped by a 15-game win streak. [4] In the 2019–20 season, the Golden Rams began the season on a 13-game winning streak and were ranked eighth nationally, the highest ranking in 37 years. [7] Ihe team finished 20–10 and was led by Australian native Robbie Heath, whose 24.6 points per game average was the highest in school history and who transferred to Division I Pepperdine after the season. [9]

Personal life

Blair is married to Carolyn, a 1997 graduate of West Chester University and former women's basketball player, and lives in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. The couple have four children: Hunter, Dylan, Autumn, and Hayden. [4]

He attended Saint Joseph's University.

John Bradley Holland is a retired American professional basketball player. He played for four years at UCLA. He was a member of the 1980 Los Angeles Lakers championship team. He was the University of San Diego head basketball coach until March 2007. On April 25, 2007, he was named as one of three finalists to become the new head coach of UC Riverside's men's basketball program, but lost out to Jim Wooldridge. Holland served as an assistant coach at UC Santa Barbara during the 2008–2009 and 2009–2010 seasons.

Gary Claude Blair is a retired women's basketball head coach. He coached for 37 years closing with Texas A&M Aggies women's basketball, who he coached from 2003 until his retirement in 2022. In his 37 years as a collegiate head coach, Blair only suffered two losing seasons, and has reached postseason play 28 times, including 23 NCAA Tournament appearances and Final Four appearances in 1998 with Arkansas and 2011 with Texas A&M. He led the Aggies to the NCAA national championship in 2011. He is listed in the top 35 of the all-time winningest NCAA Division I women's basketball coaches, and he is one of the few coaches to guide three different schools to national rankings and NCAA Tournament berths. Blair was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013 and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.

Cathy Rush is a former basketball coach at Immaculata from 1972 to 1977. She led Immaculata to three consecutive AIAW national titles from 1972–1974. She led the Mighty Macs to six consecutive final four appearances in her six seasons with the school, attaining a 149–15 record. Rush was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame on April 7, 2008. She had also been inducted to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.

The 2017 West Chester Golden Rams football team represented West Chester University in member of the East Division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) during the 2017 NCAA Division II football season. Led by 15th-year head coach Bill Zwaan, the Golden Rams compiled an overall record of 9–4 with a mark of 6–1 in conference play, sharing the PSAC East Division title with Shippensburg. West Chester advanced to the PSAC Championship Game, where the Golden Rams lost to IUP. The team received a bid to the NCAA Division II Football Championship playoffs, beating Shippensburg in the first round before again losing to IUP in the second round.

Todd O'Brien is an American-born, naturalized Armenian professional basketball player who last played for Alexandria Sporting Club of the Egyptian National League. He played college basketball for Bucknell and Saint Joseph's before playing professionally in Latvia, France, Japan, Poland, Qatar, Lebanon, Armenia, Egypt and Israel.

The 1990–91 Pepperdine Waves men's basketball team represented Pepperdine University in the 1990–91 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by head coach Tom Asbury. The Waves played their home games at the Firestone Fieldhouse and were members of the West Coast Conference. They finished the season 22–9, 13–1 in WCC play to win the regular season conference title by a 4-game margin. After a January 11 home loss to San Diego in the conference opener, Pepperdine was just 6–8 overall. The Waves then went on a 16-game winning streak and won the West Coast Conference tournament to receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. In the opening round, the Waves fell to Seton Hall, 71–51.

The 2019 Shepherd Rams football team represented Shepherd University as a member of the East Division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) during the 2019 NCAA Division II football season. Led by second-year head coach Ernie McCook, the Rams compiled an overall record of 10–3 with a mark of 6–1 in conference play, placing second in the PSAC's East Division. Shepherd advanced to the NCAA Division II Football Championship playoffs, where they beat IUP in the first round before losing in the second round at Slippery Rock. The Rams played their home games at Ram Stadium in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

Ja'Den McKenzie is an American football running back for Rhode Island. He previously played college football for Division II school West Chester where he became a top-ten rusher in school history before transferring to Rhode Island in 2023. He attended and played high school football for Springfield High School in Springfield Township, Pennsylvania.

The 1957 West Chester Golden Rams football team was an American football team that represented West Chester State College as a member of the Pennsylvania State Teachers College Conference (PSTCC) during the 1957 NCAA College Division football season. In their 20th year under head coach Glenn Killinger, the Golden Rams compiled a perfect 8–0 record and outscored opponents by a total of 326 to 40. Despite a 14-game winning streak dating back to 1956, West Chester lost the PSTCC title to Shippensburg and Lock Haven due to the conference's point system that rated the relative strength of each team's opponents.
