Damon Krukowski (born September 6, 1963) is an American musician, poet and writer. He was a member of the dreampop band Galaxie 500 and the psychedelic rock band Magic Hour, and is half of the psychedelic folk duo Damon and Naomi. He is also a published poet and writer.

Music

Krukowski was the drummer with the dreampop band Galaxie 500 on all their recordings from 1987 until their split in 1991. He has also recorded three albums and toured with the psychedelic rock band Magic Hour. Since Galaxie 500's split he has worked as duo with his partner Naomi Yang as Damon and Naomi.

Publishing

In 1989 Krukowski and his partner set up the independent book publisher Exact Change who specialise in publishing 19th and 20th century avant-garde literature.

Writing and journalism

Krukowski has written poetry and prose works as well as writing extensively on music, sound and the music industry for Pitchfork [1] and has had books on the subject published.

In 2017 he wrote and presented the six part Radiotopia podcast Ways of Hearing. [2]

Personal life

Krukowski was educated at Harvard where he studied social theory as an undergraduate and earned an AM in English and American literature. He has taught writing, sound, and writing about sound in Harvard's Writing Program, and studio art department. [3]

Krukowski is married to fellow musician Naomi Yang and they live in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dean Wareham American musician and actor (born 1963)

Dean Wareham is an American musician and actor who formed the band Galaxie 500 in 1987. He left Galaxie 500 in April 1991 and founded the band Luna. Since Luna's breakup in 2005, Wareham has released albums with fellow Luna bandmate Britta Phillips. They also work as film composers, notably on the Noah Baumbach films The Squid and the Whale and Mistress America. He released a self-titled album in 2014 and reformed Luna in 2015.

Exact Change is an American independent book publishing company founded in 1989 by Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang who, outside of their publishing careers, were musicians associated with Galaxie 500 and Damon and Naomi. The company specialises in re-publishing 19th- and 20th-century avant-garde literature and has published works by John Cage, Salvador Dalí and Denton Welch among many others.

Girls (band)

It was pioneered in the late 1960s and early 1970s by acts like Sly and the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and the Parliament-Funkadelic collective. It would influence subsequent styles including '70s jazz fusion and the '90s West Coast hip hop style G-funk.
