Dan Paul Benjamin (born October 26, 1972) is a software developer, user interface designer, writer, and podcaster. [1] He is the founder of 5by5 and Fireside.fm, CTO of Spooler Media, and owner of Bacon Method. [2]
Benjamin graduated with a B.A. in technical writing with a computer science focus from the University of Central Florida in 1994. [3]
In 2010, Benjamin started 5by5 Studios, a podcast production outlet that currently produces nineteen shows, including several co-hosted shows such as Back to Work with Merlin Mann and The Ihnatko Almanac with Andy Ihnatko. Based on his popular podcasts, Benjamin has been called "the king of Apple talk radio" by Philip Elmer-DeWitt of Fortune magazine and CNN. [4] In the past, he co-founded Cork'd and Playgrounder, and wrote the content management system behind A List Apart. [5] Additionally, he has made educational screencasts through PeepCode. [6] [7] Benjamin has appeared on the Fox News program Strategy Room – Gadgets and Games multiple times [8] to discuss various topics.
In 2016, he released Fireside.fm, a platform for podcasters, which was acquired by Very Good Software in 2024. [9]
In February 2022, Benjamin became the CTO of Spooler Media, an audio publishing tools company. [10]
As of 2025, 5by5 Productions is labeled inactive by the Texas Secretary of State Office. [11] The last published podcast with Dan Benjamin was the 644th episode of Back 2 Work on April 3, 2024. [12]
