Dan Covey is a lighting designer and projections designer for the theater, working professionally since 1980.
He studied at West Virginia University from 1976 to 1980. After leaving WVU, he worked for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, for a variety of theaters in Boston, and recently as a lighting designer and theater renovation advisor in Washington, D.C. He and scenic designer Tony Cisek worked together on more than 40 Washington productions. They also worked together on two Off-Broadway productions, Beyond Glory (2007), and columbinus (2006). [1] Covey designed the lights at Ford's Theatre for their 2019 production of Twelve Angry Men. Regionally, Covey designed lights at Hangar Theatre in Ithaca, NY, with a production of 'Gem of the Ocean.' [2]
Covey received a 2008 Drammy Award for Lighting Design for Portland Center Stage's new production of Sometimes a Great Notion . [3] This production was featured in American Theatre magazine in September 2008. [4]
He also received the 2001 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lighting Design for his work on The Tempest at the Folger Theatre. [5]

columbinus is a play written by Stephen Karam and PJ Paparelli, with contributions by Josh Barrett, Sean McNall, Karl Miller, Michael Milligan and Will Rogers, created by the United States Theatre Project. The play looks at issues of alienation, hostility and social pressure in high schools and was suggested by the April 1999 massacre at Columbine High School in Jefferson County, Colorado. The play premiered in Silver Spring, Maryland in 2005 and then Off-Broadway in 2006.

However, when an accident changes everything, Adam must turn to Luke's family for support and answers. The play, directed by Sheryl Kaller with associate director Joe Langworth, opened off-Broadway in 2009 before transferring to the Helen Hayes Theater in February, 2010.

Disgraced (2012) is the first stage play by playwright, novelist, and screenwriter Ayad Akhtar. It premiered in Chicago and has had Off-Broadway and Off West End engagements. The play, which won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, opened on Broadway at the Lyceum Theater October 23, 2014. Disgraced has also been recognized with a 2012 Joseph Jefferson Award for New Work – Play or Musical and a 2013 Obie Award for Playwriting.
