Daniel Kazungu Muzee (born 1970 in Kavilani, Marikano Lower Malindi) is a Kenyan politician and cabinet secretary in the Ministry of Mining. He was a member of the 11th national assembly of Kenya elected from Malindi Constituency, Kilifi County on the ticket of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in 2013. He failed his reelection to the national assembly in 2017. [1] [2]
Dan Muzee was born in 1970 in Kavilani in Marikano Lower Malindi in Kilifi County. He started his early education at Marikano Primary School and studied up to grade 3 before he transferred to Lango Baya Primary School where he earned his first school leaving certificate. He had his secondary education at Kwale High School and studied for a bachelor's degree and master's degree in information science at Moi University. After graduation, he worked at Institute of Advanced Technology as a training consultant for a year before moving to Computec where he was deployed to a United Nations agency. He later joined Fintec International where he was sales representative of Microsoft and Compaq across East Africa region before switching to IMB in New York where he was in charge of Personal Computing Division in East Africa. From IBM he moved to Lenovo Corporation East Africa as regional manager before returning to IBM where he finally served as country representative for Ethiopia and Kenya. [3] [4]
He started his political career in 2010 and campaigned door to door until 2013 when he ran and won Malindi parliamentary seat in the Kenya National Assembly on the ticket of ODM. In the house, he served on the committees on Departmental Committee on Energy, Communications and Information and was a member of parliamentary committee on regional integration. In 2015, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him to the Jubilee cabinet despite being an active member of the ODM replacing Najib Balala as cabinet secretary, Ministry of Mining. He is the first cabinet minister from Malindi region since independence. [5] [6]
Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi is a Kenyan politician and land economist who is currently serving as Prime Cabinet Secretary of Kenya, and since 2023, in an expanded role of Foreign & Diaspora Affairs Minister of Kenya. He is a former party leader of the Amani National Congress (ANC), one of the founding political parties, of the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
Malindi District was a former administrative district in the Coast Province of Kenya. Its capital was the coastal town of Malindi. When it was eliminated and merged into Kilifi County in 2010, the district had a population of 544,303. Malindi Town is increasingly becoming known as Kenya’s version of "Little Italy". Italians now own more than 2,500 properties, and the number of Italian residents in Malindi town and its environs, estimated at slightly over 3,000, is the largest European population compared to other European populations anywhere in Kenya.
Kilifi County was formed in 2010 as a result of a merger of Kilifi District and Malindi District, Kenya. Its capital is Kilifi and its largest town is Malindi. Kilifi county is one of the five counties that make up the Kenyan Coast. The county has a population of 1,453,787 people following the 2019 census which covers an area of 12,245.90 km2 (4,728.17 sq mi).
General elections were held in Kenya on 27 December 2007. Voters elected the President, and members of the National Assembly. They coincided with the 2007 Kenyan local elections.
The 2007–2008 Kenyan crisis was a violent political, economic, and humanitarian crisis in Kenya. The crisis erupted after incumbent President Mwai Kibaki was declared the winner of the 2007 presidential election. Supporters of Kibaki's main opponent in that election, Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Movement, alleged electoral manipulation. This position was widely confirmed by international observers, as being perpetrated by both parties in the election. Even the head of the electoral commission himself confirmed that he did not know who had won the elections despite announcing the incumbent as president.
Samuel Kazungu Kambi is a Kenyan politician born in Kwale county. He belongs to the Party of National Unity and was elected to represent the Kaloleni Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya at the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election. On 23 May 2013 he was nominated by president Uhuru Kenyatta to cabinet to the ministry of Labour and Social Services awaiting approval from the National Assembly of Kenya after the vetting process. Kazungu holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Development Studies from The University of Eastern Africa Baraton.
Ababu NamwambaE.G.H. is a Kenyan politician and former Cabinet secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts, having been appointed by President William Ruto. He is an international lawyer trained in Nairobi and Washington, DC. Since 2016 he has been the leader of the Labour Party of Kenya. Ababu is also the immediate Former Chief Administrative Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya.
Peter Anyang' Nyong'o, politically known simply as Anyang' Nyong'o, is a Kenyan politician and author who is the Governor of Kisumu County. He is a former Secretary-General of Orange Democratic Movement. Professor Nyong'o was the acting party leader from March 11 until late May when Raila Odinga was in the United States and was elected to the National Assembly of Kenya in the December 2007 parliamentary election, representing the Kisumu Rural Constituency. He was the Minister for Medical Services and previously the Minister for Planning & National Development. He previously served as the Senator of Kisumu from 2013 to 2017.
Hassan Ali Joho is the Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy in the Republic of Kenya & former Governor of Mombasa County affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He was also elected to represent the Kisauni Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya during the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election. On 4 March 2013, during the general election, Joho was elected as the first governor of Mombasa County. In the 2017 General Elections held on 8 August, Joho retained his seat on an ODM ticket. Despite significant politically engineered setbacks, Joho emerged triumphant by winning with 220 576 votes against his closest rival Suleiman Shahbal with 69 322 votes, Suleiman was a member of the Jubilee Party. Joho served as governor of Mombasa until 2022 when he completed the constitutionally allowed two five-year terms. He was succeeded by Abdulswammad Sherrif Nassir the former member of the National Assembly for Mvita Constituency.
Maitha Gideon Mung'aro is a Kenyan politician who has served as the governor of Kilifi County since August 2022. As a member of the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy and the Orange Democratic Movement, he was elected to represent Kilifi North Constituency in the National Assembly in the 2013 parliamentary election. He was the chairman of the African Union Parliamentary Group. He was also the chief whip, succeeding Jakoyo Midiwo. He was a member of the Parliamentary House Business Committee (Housekeeping), Committee on Selection (Housekeeping) and the Lands Committee (Departmental). He is also a former mayor of Malindi and represented Malindi Constituency in parliament before it was split.
Franklin Kipn'getich Bett alias (Chepkooit) is a Kenyan politician. He is currently serving as the chairman of the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) after President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him to the position. He belongs to the Jubilee Alliance Party and was elected to represent the Bureti Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya in the Kenyan parliamentary election, 2007.
Major-General Joseph Kasaine Ole Nkaissery was a Kenyan politician, serving as a Member of Parliament in the National Assembly of Kenya from 2002 to 2014, when he resigned to take up a cabinet position as Secretary for Internal Security and Coordination of National Government. He was also a senior elder of the Maasai community until his sudden death on 8 July 2017.
Aden Bare Duale is a Kenyan politician who served as the Cabinet Secretary for Defence in the cabinet of President William Ruto, having assumed the position on 31 October 2022. He was dismissed in July 11, 2024 and then reinstated on July 19, 2024.
Mvurya Salim Mgala is a Kenyan politician and Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs. He became the first governor of Kwale County, Kenya after winning in the 2013 general elections. He vied on an Orange Democratic Movement ticket but later joined the Jubilee Party of Kenya. It was announced on 30 August 2017 that he will be named Chairman of Kenya's Council of Governors. Unfortunately he didn't get to, instead governor Wycliffe Oparanya took over from NANOK. In October 2022, he was appointed the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary.
The Kenya Coast Guard Service is a specialized maritime force of the Republic of Kenya, responsible for law enforcement on national waters, including on the oceans, lakes and rivers. The force is mandated to maintain maritime safety, security, pollution control and sanitation. It is also responsible for apprehending and prosecuting offenders.
Aisha Jumwa Karisa Katana is the immediate former Cabinet Secretary for Gender, fired by President William Ruto on 11th July 2024. She previously served as a Member of Parliament representing Malindi Constituency in Kilifi County and Commissioner of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) from 2017 to 2022, the Woman Representative for Kilifi County from 2013 to 2017, and as Councillor for Takaungu Ward from 1997 to 2007. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Leadership and Management from International Leadership University [ILU] and Executive Diploma in Governance from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
Salid Idd Mustafa was a Kenyan broadcast journalist and politician who was a member of the 11th Kenyan parliament elected from Kilifi South Constituency on the ticket of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He died in 2020 from suspected COVID-19 complications.
Mwinga Gunga Chea was a Kenyan lawyer and politician who was a member of the 11th parliament of Kenya elected from Kaloleni Constituency, Kilifi County on the ticket of Kenya African Democratic Union-Asili (KADU-Asili) in 2013. He died 2020.
Harrison Mwalimu Garama Kombe is a Kenyan teacher and politician. He was first elected to the Kenya National Assembly from Magarini Constituency on the ticket of Shirikisho Party in 2002. He suffered a defeat in 2007 and returned to the parliament in 2013 and was reelected in 2017 before being defeated again in the 2022 parliamentary election.
Abdikadir Omar Aden is a Kenyan politician a member of the 11th parliament of Kenya elected from Balambala Constituency, Garissa County on the ticket of Orange Democratic Movement in 2013. He lost his reelection bid in 2017.
