The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is a NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the Western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, Texas, Utah and Washington.
Thomas Allen Holmoe is an American college athletics administrator and former football player and coach. He has been the athletic director at Brigham Young University (BYU) since 2005. Holmoe played college football at BYU and then professionally in the National Football League (NFL) with the San Francisco 49ers from 1983 to 1989. He served as the head football coach at the University of California, Berkeley (Cal) from 1997 to 2001.
The BYU Cougars are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Brigham Young University (BYU), located in Provo, Utah. BYU fields 21 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) varsity athletic teams. They are a member of the Big 12 Conference for all sports except men's volleyball which is a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. They were a member of the West Coast Conference from 2011 to 2022. From 1999 to 2011 they were a member of the Mountain West Conference and before the formation of the MW, the Cougars competed in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the Mountain States Conference, and the Western Athletic Conference. BYU officially joined the Big 12 Conference on July 1, 2023.
The WAC women's basketball tournament is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The WAC has held a postseason tournament to crown a women's basketball champion every year since 1991. At first the regular season champion hosted it but at its height, the tournament was held at larger urban venues. With the departure of the Mountain West Conference teams, the tournament had returned to campus, with each game in the tournament being held in one campus venue, each year. Since 2011, the tournament has been held at the Orleans Arena, part of the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
The Utah Valley Wolverines represent Utah Valley University in NCAA DI collegiate athletics and sponsor 16 sporting programs. The Wolverines participate in the Western Athletic Conference. The school mascot is the Wolverine, and the colors are green and white. The UVU student section is called The Den. A name change from The Mawl, the student section's previous name, was enacted in 2017.
The 2014–15 Utah Valley Wolverines men's basketball team represented Utah Valley University in the 2014–15 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Dick Hunsaker was in his thirteenth season as the UVU head coach. The Wolverines played their home games at the UCCU Center as members of the Western Athletic Conference. They finished the season 11–19, 5–9 in WAC play to finish in sixth place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the WAC tournament to Cal State Bakersfield.
The 2015–16 Utah Valley Wolverines men's basketball team represented Utah Valley University in the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. This was the first year under head coach Mark Pope. They played their home games at the UCCU Center and were member of the Western Athletic Conference. They finished the season 12–18, 6–8 in WAC play to finish in fifth place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the WAC tournament to UMKC.
The California Baptist Lancers women's basketball team is a basketball team that represents California Baptist University in Riverside, California, United States. The California Baptist Lancers compete as members of the Division I Western Athletic Conference (WAC). They are currently led by head coach Jarrod Olson and play at the Fowler Events Center.

It was head coach Mark Pope's first season as BYU's head coach and the Cougars ninth season as members of the West Coast Conference (WCC). The Cougars played their home games at the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah. They finished the season 24–8, 13–3 in WCC play to finish in second place. They lost in the semifinals of the WCC tournament to Saint Mary's. Despite being a virtual lock to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, all postseason play was cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Wolverines, led by first-year head coach Mark Madsen, played their home games at the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah as members of the Western Athletic Conference. They finished the season 11–19, 5–10 in WAC play to finish in finish in eighth place. Due to irregularities in the WAC standings due to cancelled games, they were set to be the No. 6 seed in the WAC tournament, however, the tournament was cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2021–22 WAC men's basketball season began with practices in October 2021 followed by the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November 2021. The conference began play in December 2021. This is the WAC's 60th season of basketball. On July 1, 2021, The WAC officially welcomed four new members: Abilene Christian, Lamar, Sam Houston, and Stephen F. Austin to grow and revitalize the conference. All four were previously in the Southland Conference. The WAC now has 6 full members in Texas, making it the largest DI conference in the state. Each WAC member will play an 18-game conference schedule.

The 2022–23 Utah Valley Wolverines men's basketball team represented Utah Valley University in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Wolverines, led by fourth-year head coach Mark Madsen, played their home games at the UCCU Center in Orem, Utah, and competed as members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). They finished with an overall record of 24–7, 15–3 in WAC play, to finish in first place. In the 2023 WAC tournament, they defeated Tarleton in the quarterfinals before losing to Southern Utah in the semifinals the following day. As the conference leader who didn't win their tournament, they were offered an automatic bid to play in the NIT. They defeated New Mexico, Colorado, and Cincinnati to reach the semifinal round, where they finally fell to UAB in overtime, 86–88. With a final record of 28–9, the 2022–23 season marked the Wolverine's most successful season to date as a D-I program.

They finished the season 16–16, 11–9 in WAC play, to finish in a tie for fourth place. As the No. 5 seed in the WAC tournament, they lost to California Baptist in the first round.
