Dan Stiles is an American graphic artist and graphic designer, known for his rock posters. He is based in Portland, Oregon. [1] [2]
Stiles is originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan. [3] He attended the University of Oregon (UO) in Eugene, later noting that he had "used college as an excuse to move to the Northwest" to pursue music and snowboarding. [3] [4] After several years working in the Pacific Northwest he moved to San Francisco in 1996 to study design at the California College of the Arts (CCA). [5]
He lived and worked in San Francisco for 7 years, before returning to Portland, Oregon in 2001. [5]
While at UO, he began his career as an artist by drawing rock posters. [4] [6] Soon, Stiles learned how to silkscreen posters and moved into digital illustration. [6] Stiles has since remarked on how digital creation is a more freeing process. "With a computer... you can draw all of this stuff and then... throw [it] out, keep going," he remarked in an interview with WeMake. [6]
After gaining notoriety with his poster art, Stiles attracted the attention of brands like Nike, AT&T, Birch Fabrics, IBM, and the X Games. [6] [7] He has also worked on projects for bands like Band of Horses, Feist, Death Cab for Cutie, Vampire Weekend, Hot Chip, and Arcade Fire. [6] [7]
PowerHouse Books released a monograph of his work entitled One Thing Leads to Another (2015). [1] Stiles has also authored several books with POW!, the children's division of powerHouse Books. These include Put on Your Shoes!, Baby's First Book Blocks, and Today I'm Going to Wear...
Stiles appears in the rock poster documentary film, Just like Being There (2012). [8]
Stiles utilizes colorful geometric shapes in a style that has been described as "punk rock modern" and "pop folk." [6] He is usually allowed a fair amount of creative control in his work; Stiles told WeMake that bands often tell him to "just do something cool." [6] According to Stiles, each of his posters has its own significance, as he views them as "his children." [6]
The 101ers were a pub rock band from the 1970s playing mostly in a rockabilly style, notable as being the band that Joe Strummer left to join The Clash. Formed in London in May 1974, the 101ers made their performing debut on 7 September at the Telegraph pub in Brixton, under the name 'El Huaso and the 101 All Stars'. The name would later be shortened to the '101 All Stars' and finally just the '101ers'. The group played at free festivals such as Stonehenge, and established themselves on the London pub rock circuit prior to the advent of punk.
Wipers was a punk rock band formed in Portland, Oregon, in 1977 by guitarist and vocalist Greg Sage, along with drummer Sam Henry and bassist Dave Koupal. The group's tight song structure and use of heavy distortion were hailed as extremely influential by numerous critics and musicians. They are also considered to be the first Pacific Northwest punk band.
Frank Kozik was an American graphic artist best known for his posters for alternative rock bands. With his prolific output and connections in the music industry, Kozik helped revitalize rock poster art in the late 1980s and 1990s, and was a founder of the modern art print scene. His album cover work included the bands Queens of the Stone Age and the Offspring. With his artistic versatility, he was also a pioneer in the designer toy movement, and later became the creative director of Kidrobot.

Dan Cunneen is an American musician, songwriter, disc jockey, screen printer and graphic designer originally from Portland, Oregon, United States. Cunneen is best known for his drum work with the 1980s Portland, Oregon bands Final Warning and The Obituaries as well as the 1990s Seattle, Washington-based bands Zipgun and Nightcaps. In 2020, Cunneen began recording under the moniker Dan Steely. Cunneen also occasionally plays drums with the Perkins Coie Band, the in house band for the Seattle, Washington-based law firm Perkins Coie.

Jim Connolly is an English illustrator, designer and commercial artist from Sheffield. Nicole J. Georges is an American illustrator, writer, zinester, podcaster, and educator. She is well known for authoring the autobiographical comic zine Invincible Summer, whose individual issues have been collected into two anthologies published by Tugboat Press and Microcosm Publishing. Some of her other notable works include the graphic memoirs Calling Dr. Laura and Fetch: How a Bad Dog Brought Me Home. In addition to this, Georges creates comics and teaches others how to make them, produces the Podcast Sagittarian Matters, and illustrates portraits of animals. Michael King is an American graphic designer from Portland, Oregon. His career started in the late 1970s, when he started making concert posters for local punk bands in Portland. King's work includes an album cover for Jack Johnson, posters for Pink Martini, and the Voodoo Doughnut logo. He founded Crash Design America, a graphic design company in Portland.

Scrojo is an American poster artist, illustrator and graphic designer. He is particularly known for his prolific work in the music industry and the surf and skate community. He has illustrated over 2,000 posters to date for concerts and other music events. Many of these have been for the Belly Up Aspen in Aspen, Colorado, as well as the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California, where he has been the resident artist for 30 years. Scrojo has also regularly worked for such notable venues as The Fillmore, The Casbah, Alamo Drafthouse (Austin), The Troubadour and House of Blues.
