Sheikha Dana Al Khalifa is a Bahraini fashion blogger, businesswoman, and lawyer. She is a member of Bahrain's royal family, the House of Khalifa.

Early life and education

Princess Dana was born and raised in the Kingdom of Bahrain as a member of the royal family. [1] [2] She received a bachelor of law degree from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies. [3] [4] She later obtained a master's degree in law from King's College London. [5]

Career

While at law school in London, Sheika Dana was exposed to European fashion. After searching for a job in fashion after her move back to Bahrain, she founded the style blog The Overdressed in December 2009. [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] She was named Harper's Bazaar Arabia's Best Dressed in the magazine's first issue. [11] In 2011 she hosted her first pop-up event for an international retailer in Bahrain. In 2014 Princess Dana hosted her first event for London-based retailer Avenue 32. In 2014 she established The Overdressed Pavilion, which hosted seven international jewelers at Jewelry Arabia. [12] [13] Later in 2014 she was the first Arab blogger to be selected by Louis Vuitton to attend their 2015 Spring Season show in Paris, later becoming the first Arab ambassador for the brand. In January 2015 she was the first Arab blogger to be on the cover on Hia Magazine . [14] [15]

In September 2018 Princess Dana walked in the Spring/Summer 2019 Dolce & Gabbana show in Milan. [16] [17] [18]

Personal life

Sheika Dana is married to Suliman Azzouni and has one daughter, Alia. [19] [20] [12]

Sheikha Meriam bint Abdullah Al Khalifa is a member of the Bahraini Royal House of Al-Khalifa. She is best known for fleeing her family and native Bahrain to the United States to elope with US Marine Lance Corporal Jason Johnson, who was, at the time, stationed in Bahrain as part of a counter-terrorism unit providing security for expatriate Americans. After she was smuggled into the United States with help from Lance Corporal Johnson and being threatened with deportation by United States Customs, she was permitted to stay and apply for asylum, claiming that she feared honor violence by her family in retaliation for fleeing her country and entertaining a romantic relationship with a non-Muslim. Her story was featured heavily in the American press, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, and was turned into a television movie.
