Dana Marie Youngman is a New Zealand television executive. A Samoan New Zealander, she won the Diversity Award at the 2021 New Zealand Women of Influence Awards.

Biography

Youngman spent her early years in the 1970s in the Auckland suburb of Avondale. [1] Her mother, Mata Vao, had emigrated from Samoa in 1967 to train as a nurse, and her Pākehā father, Brian Youngman, was a police officer. The family moved to Dannevirke in the Hawke's Bay region when she was about 10 years old. [2] At high school, Youngman studied documentary-making with Bruno Lawrence and Chris Verberg and then moved back to Auckland to study television directing and producing at Unitec Institute of Technology. [1]

While a tertiary student, Youngman had work experience placements at TVNZ, and on graduating was employed as a production co-ordinator. In 1997, she joined the morning television show Good Morning. In 2004, she was appointed head of the network's lifestyle unit and produced a number of drama, documentary and animated television shows until moving to Sky TV in 2019. [1] [3] After three years at Sky, Youngman was appointed strategic advisor to the chief executive at the New Zealand Film Commission. [4]

Youngman has been nominated for television awards. In 2003, she was nominated with Lisa Pringle for the Best Lifestyle Series Award at the New Zealand Television Awards for Maggie's Garden Show . In 2019, she was nominated with Damon Fepulea'i for the Best Pasifika Programme Award and the Best Sports Programme Award for Life After Footy – Legends of the Pacific at the New Zealand Television Awards. [5] Her commissioned series INSiDE won an International Emmy Award for Best Short-Form Series in 2021. [2]

Youngman is one of three New Zealand members of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. [2] In 2021, she won the Diversity Award at the New Zealand Women of Influence Awards. [2]

Shirley Frances Whitley Maddock was a New Zealand producer, television presenter, author and actress. After early work in theatre and radio, she became a pioneering figure in early New Zealand television. She produced and presented a number of award-winning documentaries, including New Zealand's first ever locally produced television documentary series, Islands of the Gulf (1964). Later in her career she wrote a number of non-fiction books about New Zealand's history and landscapes, worked as a book reviewer, and continued to make appearances on television and radio throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

Elisabeth Easther is a New Zealand actor, broadcaster, journalist and playwright. She played Carla Crozier on New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street from May 1995 to July 1996, and has since had a varied career in television, radio, journalism and playwriting. Her acting credits include The Breaker Upperers (2018), SIS (2020), The Panthers (2021), The Pact (2021) and Sui Generis (2022), in which she is also a writer for the TV series. Faletau competed as a dancer in the World Hip Hop Dance Championships in 2011 and has been a judge at the National Hip Hop Championships in New Zealand over several years.

Maxine Fleming is a New Zealand television screenwriter and producer. She was recognised at the Women in Film and Television New Zealand Awards in 2018.
