Daniel Alessander Alessi (born 26 August 1997) is an Australian footballer who currently plays for Dandenong Thunder, where he plays as a defender. [2]

Club career

Western Sydney Wanderers

Alessi joined the Western Sydney Wanderers on 13 October 2013 on a Youth League contract for the 2013–14 season. [3] Alessi played his debut game in the senior team in the second Sydney derby of the season on 11 January 2014. He impressed the coach Tony Popovic [4] and was selected for the round's team of the week. [5] In May 2014 Alessi signed a professional contract, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2015–16 season.

Newcastle Jets

Shortly after being released by the Western Sydney Wanderers, [6] Alessi signed with the Newcastle Jets. [7] [8] On 19 February 2018, after not playing for the club, Alessi was released by Newcastle Jets to allow him to take up an opportunity at Manly United. [9]

On 11 January 2020, Alessi joined Southern League Premier Division Central side Stratford Town, on dual registration from Hereford. [10]

In February 2020, Alessi signed a permanent deal with Gosport Borough. [11]

Alessi returned to Australia, signing with National Premier Leagues club Blacktown City in July 2020. [12]

International career

Alessi was called up to the Australia u-20's training squad in December 2013. [13] In September, Alessi travelled to Vietnam for the 2014 AFF U-19 Youth Championship. Alessi was also selected for the 2014 AFC U-19 Championship in October. [14]

The 2012–13 A-League was the 36th season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the eighth season of the Australian A-League since its establishment in 2004. The 2012–13 season saw the introduction of a new Western Sydney-based team, the return of Newcastle Jets FC after their A-League licence was returned by FFA, and the end of Gold Coast United after they were removed from the competition at the end of the previous season. The 2020–21 A-League was the 44th season of national level soccer in Australia, and the 16th since the establishment of the A-League in 2004. The season was started on 28 December 2020 and concluded with the Grand Final on 27 June 2021. The start of the season was later than previous seasons as a result of both the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia and New Zealand, and as part of a gradual shift to move the competition from summer to winter. Wellington Phoenix played the majority of their home matches at Wollongong Showground in Wollongong due to international travel restrictions.
