He is the bronze medallist of the 2018 Judo Grand Prix Tbilisi in the -66 kg category. [3]

He competed for Israel at the 2020 Summer Olympics, finishing in fifth place in the individual competition and winning a bronze medal in the mixed team. He has reached a high world ranking of third in 2019, 2022, and 2024. Shmailov will represent Israel at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in judo in the men's 66 kg event on 28 July 2024, and in the mixed team event.
