Danielle Eog Makedah, born July 21, 1982, in Paris, is a Cameroonian singer-songwriter of soul, R&B and jazz music. [1] She began her career on the Cameroonian hip-hop scene in 2000. She accompanied many artists on stage and had multiple collaborations for more than 10 years before the release of her first solo album in 2013. [2] She was a finalist for the Prix Découvertes RFI in 2013. [3] She is a member of the collective Hip Hop Developed, in which she has been playing since 2011 alongside Lady B, Teety Tezano, Adango Salicia and rapper Sadrak. [4]

Biography

Makedah was born in 1982 in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. She lived and grew up in France with her parents, both of whom were from Cameroon. She returned to Cameroon in 1997 while still in high school. She moved to Yaoundé, where she took her first steps in music, especially on the hip-hop scene, thanks to the support of rapper Krotal, with whom she made her first studio recordings in 1999. [5] For several years, she collaborated and accompanied in choirs several renowned artists such as Manu Dibango, The Nubians, Fredy Masamba and Krotal. [6] [7]

In 2006, she announced her first album, Tobassi, [8] but it was never released. In 2007, she participated in the project Rap Conteur, initiated by the MTN Cameroon telephony operator, and joined the performers of the song "Je wanda." [9] The song became a hit and won the Song of the Year Award and Best Videogram at Canal2'or 2007. [10]

On March 30, 2013, she released Peace, Love and Light, her first album, containing 13 tracks with varied rhythms combining jazz, hip-hop, slam, makossa and mangambeu. [11] [12] She was a finalist for the 2013 RFI Discoveries Prize. [13] She participated in the Island Africa Talent competition in 2014 and finished in second place. [14] In 2015, she was nominated for the Canal d'Or as the best World Music artist. [15] The same year, she released "Hold on Sister," a duet with singer Teety Tezano. [16] She has had several international tours, including MASA with the collective Hip Hop Developed. She released the song "Ma Flamme" in April 2018. [17]

Makedah is the mother of two children, Noe and Moonie. [5]

The song has been referred to as the most sampled African song in addition Dibango, himself, as the most sampled African musician in history. He died from COVID-19 on 24 March 2020.

<i>H.I.V</i> (album) 2012 studio album by Jovi

H.I.V is the debut album of the Cameroonian rapper and producer Jovi, released August 31, 2012. Entirely self-produced under his producer alias, "Le Monstre", Jovi composed, recorded, and mixed the album in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The album blends instrumentation and rhythms from traditional Cameroonian genres with Western hip hop beats and style, as well as influences from pop, rock, electronic and industrial genres, and includes samples from African musicians Tabu Ley Rochereau and Eko Roosevelt. H.I.V received critical acclaim for its use of punchlines, rhyming, and wordplay in Pidgin English, mixed with English and French. Jovi’s H.I.V album was highly anticipated in Cameroon following the release of his debut video “Don 4 Kwat” on October 14, 2011, which is seen as re-energizing the hip hop scene in Cameroon, which had largely been dormant and dominated by Bikutsi and Makossa genres. Originally released on iTunes for sale, the album was removed after one year, and became available for free download on Bandcamp on September 12, 2013, according to the website, as a "special edition of Jovi's debut album."

Jean Jacques Ndoudoumou is a public servant and disability sports administrator from Cameroon. An albino, he faced discrimination growing up. He later became the General Director of the Cameroonian Regulatory Board for Public Procurement (ARMP) in 2001, leaving in 2012 after he was fired in the midst of a scandal.

Gah-Ndo Ashuembom Amabo professionally known as Gasha, is an Afro-pop, Afrobeats Soul singer from Cameroon. She made herself known in October 2013 with her debut single Kaki Mbere.

Grace Decca is a Cameroonian singer and producer from Douala, the country's economic capital. She is the younger sister of Ben Decca, a well-known Makossa singer, and she worked alongside him and other musicians like Jean Jacques Goldman before establishing her own career in 1989 with the album Besoin d'amour.. Her five other Makossa albums are Le Duo D.K (1992), Doï La Mulema (1993), Appelle-moi Princesse (1998), and Donne-moi un peu d'amour (2001).
