Aarhus is the second-largest city in Denmark and the seat of Aarhus Municipality. It is located on the eastern shore of Jutland in the Kattegat sea and approximately 187 kilometres (116 mi) northwest of Copenhagen.

Den Gamle By, or The Old Town in English, is an open-air town museum located in the Aarhus Botanical Gardens, in central Aarhus, Denmark. In 1914, the museum opened as the world's first open-air museum of its kind, concentrating on town culture rather than village culture, and to this day it remains one of just a few top rated Danish museums outside Copenhagen, serving more than 400,000 visitors pr. year. Today the museum consists of 75 historical buildings collected from 20 townships in all parts of the country. The town itself is the main attraction but most buildings are open for visitors; rooms are either decorated in the original historical style or organized into larger exhibits of which there are 5 regular with varying themes.
The ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum is an art museum in Aarhus, Denmark. The museum was established in 1859 and is the oldest public art museum in Denmark outside Copenhagen. On 7 April 2004, ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum opened with exhibitions in a brand new modern building, 10 stories tall with a total floor area of 20,700 m² and designed by Danish architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen. Today, ARoS is one of the largest art museums in Northern Europe with a total of 980,909 visitors in 2017.

Museum Ovartaci in Aarhus, Denmark is a combined art and historical museum dedicated to the history of psychiatric treatment and art produced by patients at the Risskov Psychiatric Hospital. It was a part of Aarhus University Hospital in the same buildings as the Psychiatric Hospital in Risskov, but now it is located on Katrinebjergvej in Aarhus N. The museum also offers social programmes directed at psychiatric patients, including an open atelier, creative workshops and a café.
Aarhus Old City Hall is the former city hall of Aarhus, Denmark, and a listed building. The city hall was built in 1857 and was listed in the Danish national registry of protected buildings and places by the Danish Heritage Agency on 18 March 1996. It is the second, and oldest preserved, city hall of Aarhus.
The Danish National Exhibition of 1909 or The National Exhibition in Aarhus 1909 was an industry, crafts and culture exhibition held in Aarhus, Denmark in 1909 from 18 May to 3 October. The exhibition displayed some 1850 individual works by architects, artists, craftsmen and businesses and attracted 650.000 visitors. The project was a large undertaking for the city with long-lasting effects on cultural institutions and short-term economic problems. The exhibition fairgrounds was named The white City based on the architectural expression chosen by the leading architect Anton Rosen.
Peter Holm was a Danish museum director and curator. Holm is best known for creating The Old Town Museum in Aarhus, Denmark, an open-air 'living' museum on the history of Danish life and architecture with a focus on the changes brought to urban life by the industrialization of the early 20th century and the development of the city through time. Holm worked against established museum organizations to create the first open air museum in Scandinavia and one of the largest open air museums in Europe.

He has worked professionally in many fields of graphical design, including corporate identity, colour setting, posters, graphic art, layout, and photography. He has exhibited in major galleries and museums around the world and his productions has won him many awards and professional recognition internationally. Nygaard is member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) since 1997 and a Graphis Master of Design from 2011.
Maren Kirstine (Kirsten) Kjær (1893–1985) was a self-taught Danish painter from northern Jutland. After a rather confused early life, in 1925 she realized she wanted to paint and, inspired by Gauguin's works, made a trip to France. From 1926, she spent three successful years on the west coast of the United States, exhibiting in San Francisco and Oakland. On her return to Denmark, she visited Skagen where she met the Swedish writers Brita von Horn and Elsa Collin who introduced her to art circles in Stockholm. After World War II, she traveled widely, painting both portraits and landscapes in Poland, Lapland, Iceland, Tunisia and Liberia. Her colourful, expressive and increasingly decorative portraits depicted not only well-known figures of her times but also ordinary people she came across on her travels. Many of her paintings are exhibited in the Kirsten Kjærs Museum at Frøstup near Thisted in the north of Jutland.
