The National Football League draft, also called the NFL draft or (officially) the Annual Player Selection Meeting, is an annual event which serves as the most common source of player recruitment in the National Football League. Each team is given a position in the drafting order in reverse order relative to its record in the previous year, which means that the last place team is positioned first and the Super Bowl champion is last. From this position, the team can either select a player or trade its position to another team for other draft positions, a player or players, or any combination thereof. The round is complete when each team has either selected a player or traded its position in the draft. The first draft was held in 1936, and has been held every year since.
Eric Demetric Dickerson is an American former football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons. Dickerson played college football for the Mustangs of Southern Methodist University and was recognized as an All-American. He was selected second overall in the 1983 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Rams, and later played for the Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Raiders, and Atlanta Falcons. During his NFL career, he rushed for over 13,000 yards. He holds the NFL's single-season rushing record with 2,105 yards, set in 1984. Dickerson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999 and, in 2019, was named to the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest running backs of all time. He wore prescription goggles throughout his career due to myopia.
Cornelius O'Landa Bennett is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the Buffalo Bills from 1987 to 1995, Atlanta Falcons from 1996 to 1998, and the Indianapolis Colts from 1999 to 2000. Bennett was a five-time Pro Bowler, being elected in 1988, and 1990–1993, and won the AFC Defensive Player of the Year award twice.
Aundray Bruce is an American former professional football player who was an outside linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). As a college football player, he played defensive end for the Auburn Tigers before the Atlanta Falcons selected him with the first overall pick in the 1988 NFL Draft. He played in the NFL for the Falcons and Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders.

Paul Frase is a former American football player who played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons, from 1988 to 1998. He grew up in Barrington, New Hampshire and studied psychology at Syracuse University. Frase played with the New York Jets, the Jacksonville Jaguars (1995–1996), Green Bay Packers (1997), and the Baltimore Ravens (1998). Frase was drafted by the Jets in the sixth round of the 1988 NFL Draft.

Timothy Ray Goad is an American former professional football player who was a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). He attended high school at Patrick County High School in Stuart, VA and was a member of the Cougar varsity football team. He played offensive tackle and defensive tackle for the team. After high school, he attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he played on the defensive line. After college, Goad was drafted in the fourth round of the 1988 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He made his first professional appearance on September 4, 1988 in a 28–3 Patriots' victory. He played seven seasons in New England. In 1995, he played for the Cleveland Browns, and finished his career with the Baltimore Ravens in 1996. In 1998, Goad became the jackman for the NASCAR team Wood Brothers Racing, while also serving at Petty Enterprises and Kevin Harvick Incorporated, the latter in which he served as pit coach. The 1988 Indiana Hoosiers football team represented Indiana University Bloomington as a member of the Big Ten Conference during the 1988 NCAA Division I-A football season. Led by fifth-year head coach Bill Mallory, the Hoosiers compiled an overall record of 8–3–1 with a mark of 5–3 in conference play, placing fifth in the Big Ten. Indiana was invited to the Liberty Bowl, where they beat South Carolina. The team played home games at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana.
William Andrew Whitaker was an American football safety in the National Football League (NFL) who played for the Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Cardinals. Whitaker played collegiate ball for the University of Missouri before being drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 7th round of the 1981 NFL Draft. He played professionally in the NFL for 4 seasons and retired in 1984.
Rollin William Putzier was an American football player. He played defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL), and was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round of the 1988 NFL Draft. He was also a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers, winning Super Bowl XXIV with the 49ers, and played in the World League of American Football (WLAF) with the Montreal Machine and London Monarchs.
