Dario Chiazzolino (born February 8, 1985) [1] is a guitarist, composer, arranger, producer, and musical artist based in New York City. He has played with Bob Mintzer, Billy Cobham, and the Yellowjackets.
Italian jazz guitarist Dario Chiazzolino has established an international career as a performer, composer, and recording artist, collaborating with prominent musicians in the jazz and fusion world.
In 2010, Chiazzolino joined a Latin jazz project, recording the album Proposicion alongside bassist Dany Noel Martinez, drummer Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, and pianist Ivan Bridon. The project featured guest contributions from Latin jazz artists such as Concha Buika, Ramón Porrina, and Jerry González.
In 2011, he recorded his album Paint Your Life, featuring pianist Taylor Eigsti, bassist Marco Panascia, and drummer Willie Jones III. The same year, he collaborated with guitarist Rick Stone on the album The Best Thing for You.
In 2012, Chiazzolino formed Principles Sound, a quartet featuring members of the Yellowjackets, including saxophonist Bob Mintzer, pianist Russell Ferrante, and bassist Jimmy Haslip. With them, he recorded the album Lost in the Jungle and subsequently joined the Yellowjackets on their 2012 international tour.
In 2013, he collaborated with Italian guitarist Nico Di Battista on the duo album Rewriting Songs. That same year, he partnered with Cuban bassist Dany Noel Martinez for another duo recording, Confidence.
In 2014, Chiazzolino founded his own quartet, featuring pianist Antonio Faraò, bassist Dominique Di Piazza, and drummer Manhu Roche. The group recorded the album Red Cloud, which was well received in the jazz community.
Chiazzolino gained further international exposure through performances at major jazz festivals, including Umbria Jazz Festival (Italy), NYC Winter Jazz Fest (USA), Madrid Jazz Festival (Spain), and the Edinburgh Jazz Festival (UK). He has also played at renowned venues such as Blue Note (Milan), Ronnie Scott’s (London), Jazz Standard (New York), and Minton’s Playhouse (New York).
In 2016, he released The Ninth Gig with the New Generation Trio. He also performed extensively with saxophonist Andy Sheppard, touring across Europe.
In 2018, he joined Spirit Fingers, a contemporary jazz-fusion band led by pianist Greg Spero. The group, featuring bassist Hadrien Feraud and drummer Mike Mitchell, released the album Spirit Fingers and toured internationally.
In 2020, he collaborated with Spero again on the duo album Piano & Guitar Improvisation. That same year, he contributed to the album Goodbye by Spirit Fingers feat. Judi Jackson and played on Peace, another Spirit Fingers release.
In 2021 and 2022, Dario Chiazzolino engaged in a series of duo collaborations with renowned jazz musicians. These included guitarists Peter Bernstein and Jonathan Kreisberg, as well as pianist Taylor Eigsti, showcasing his versatility and deep musical interplay in an intimate setting.
In 2022, Chiazzolino released I Am Ready, featuring Federico Malaman and Max Furian. He continued collaborating with Spirit Fingers and various artists, expanding his repertoire with fusion and contemporary jazz projects.
In 2023, he recorded a series of albums with pianist Greg Spero, trumpeter Keyon Harrold, bassist Jermaine Paul, and drummer Terreon Gully. These include Back to Beginnings, Bass Solo, The Dance, Resurrection, The Journey, Past Reflections, Stepping Through Fire, Guidance, Reckoning, Beginnings, and Progressions.
In 2024, he released The Abstrucks with Malaman and Furian, followed by his solo project ATTYA.
Chiazzolino continues to perform internationally, including recent appearances at the Indy Jazz Festival (USA), Mondriaan Jazz Festival (Netherlands), and Paris Jazz Festival (France).
In addition to his performance career, Chiazzolino is an active educator and has held faculty positions at colleges and universities. He is a lecturer at the City University of New York (CUNY), where he teaches jazz guitar, music theory, improvisation, and ensemble studies. [2]

Dario Chiazzolino has collaborated with several musical instrument and equipment manufacturers, reflecting his role in the jazz and fusion guitar community. Since 2017, he has been an artist for D’Angelico Guitars, a company known for its handcrafted archtop guitars widely used in jazz. His long-standing partnership with DV Mark amplifiers has played a key role in shaping his distinctive sound. [5]
Beyond guitars and amplification, Chiazzolino has also worked with Keeley Electronics, Hosa Technology, Dogal Strings, Kinman Pickups, and Essetipicks, brands recognized for their innovations in tone shaping, signal clarity, and guitar accessories. Chiazzolino has received numerous recognitions for his contributions to jazz guitar. In 2006, he was named Best Guitarist at the Umbria Jazz Award, highlighting his emerging presence in the European jazz scene. His career continued to gain critical acclaim when he was awarded Best Guitarist by Italian Jazz Magazine in 2011. That same year, the Archivio Chitarristi Jazz Italiani recognized his technical excellence and innovation in jazz guitar.
In 2015, he was named Best Guitarist by Guitarlist Magazine, and that same year, Suono Magazine listed one of his compositions among the Top 15 Songs of the Year. His international recognition expanded in 2018 when Soul and Jazz Magazine awarded Best Jazz Album to Spirit Fingers. [8] .
