Darren Tighe is an American college basketball coach, currently the head men's basketball coach at Dakota State University. [1]
Tighe received his bachelor's degree in English studies and his master's degree in teaching from Minnesota State University, Mankato. His first coaching job was as an assistant at Bethany Lutheran College from 2007 until 2011. He then spent time coaching at the high school ranks, first as the head coach at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton High School for one year, then as an assistant at Redwood Valley High School.
In 2014, Tighe was named the head coach at Ridgewater College in Willmar and Hutchinson, Minnesota. [2] [3] In his three seasons at Ridgewater, he led the Warriors to a 48–34 record. During the 2015–16 season, the Warriors won the MCAC Region 13 Consolation Championship.
Tighe was then hired as the head coach at Mayville State University in Mayville, North Dakota. [4] In his 6 seasons at Mayville State, the Comets achieved an overall record of 76–30. In his first three seasons, the Comets won three straight NSAA tournament championships. The Comets also won the NSAA regular season championship during the 2020–21 season. Following the 2020–21 season, Tighe would be announced as the North Star Athletic Association Coach of the Year. [5] On October 31, 2022, Tighe resigned effective immediately just two games into the 2022–23 season. [6]
In 2023, Tighe was hired as the head coach at Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota. [7]

Mayville State University is a public university in Mayville, North Dakota. It is part of the North Dakota University System.
Robert Luther "Lute" Olson was an American basketball coach, who was inducted into both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. He was the head coach of the Arizona Wildcats men's team for 25 years. He was also head coach for the Iowa Hawkeyes for nine years and Long Beach State 49ers for one season. Known for player development and great recruiting, many of his former players have gone on to have impressive careers in the NBA. On October 23, 2008, Olson announced his retirement from coaching. Olson died on August 27, 2020, in Tucson, Arizona. He was 85 years old.
Richard Alexander Glas is an American basketball coach who was most recently the head men's basketball coach at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. In a coaching career that spanned 1970 to 2017, Glas had various assistant and head coaching positions in college basketball and was head coach at Minnesota Morris from 1974 to 1979, Willamette from 1979 to 1984, North Dakota from 1988 to 2006, and Concordia from 2008 to 2017.
Gene Roebuck is the retired head coach of the women's basketball team at the University of North Dakota. He is a graduate of Mayville State University.
James Michael LeClair was an American football player and coach. He played as a linebacker for 12 seasons, from 1972 to 1983, in the National Football League (NFL) with the Cincinnati Bengals and two seasons, from 1984 to 1985, in the United States Football League (USFL) with the New Jersey Generals. LeClair played college football for the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles and the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. He served as the head football coach at Mayville State University, from 1986 to 1988. LeClair was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a player in 1999.
Timothy Sean Miles is an American college basketball coach who is the current head coach of the San Jose State Spartans men's basketball team. Miles previously served as the head coach of North Dakota State University, Colorado State University and the University of Nebraska. Miles is a graduate of the University of Mary.
The Northern State Wolves are the athletic teams that represent Northern State University, located in Aberdeen, South Dakota, U.S., in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Wolves compete as members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference for all 13 varsity sports. Northern State has been a member of the conference since 1978, and they also have the fifth-smallest enrollment of the 16 member schools. In the 1990s, all members of the NSIC solely became members of NCAA Division II, after spending many years with dual membership with the NAIA.

He served as the head football coach at Ellendale State Teachers—later known as the North Dakota State Normal and Industrial School—in Ellendale, North Dakota from 1961 to 1962 and Dickinson State College—now known as Dickinson State University–in Dickinson, North Dakota from 1966 to 1967, compiling a career college football coaching record of 4–27.
The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) that began play in the 2013–14 school year. The conference currently has six full member institutions in Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. On December 28, 2023, the conference announced it will disband following the 2024–25 school year.
Isaac Fruechte is an American college football coach and former wide receiver. He is the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the University of North Dakota, positions he has held since 2024. Fruechte played college football at Rochester Community and Technical College and Minnesota as well as high school in-state at Caledonia.
Craig Francis Smith is an American college basketball coach who is the head coach for the Utah Utes men's team of the Big 12 Conference. He served as an assistant for Tim Miles at four schools – Mayville State, North Dakota State, Colorado State, and Nebraska. Smith was also the head coach at Mayville State from 2004 to 2007, at South Dakota from 2014 to 2018, and at Utah State from 2018 to 2021.
Nate Bjorkgren is an American basketball coach who is an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the University of South Dakota and Buena Vista University. He was previously an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns from 2015 to 2017 and the Toronto Raptors from 2018 to 2020. He was the head coach of the Indiana Pacers for the 2020–2021 season.

Jim Dew is an American former football and baseball player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Valley City State University in Valley City, North Dakota from 1974 to 1993. Dew was also the head baseball coach at Valley City State from 1974 to 1991, tallying a mark of 275–323.
