Terry Vaughn is a former Canadian Football League receiver most recently with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. In 2005, Terry Vaughn's 1113 receiving yards combined with those of his teammates as the 2005 Montreal Alouettes became only the second team in CFL history to achieve four players all having over 1,000 yards receiving in the same season. On July 14, 2006 Terry Vaughn became the all-time leader in receptions in the Canadian Football League, surpassing Darren Flutie's previous record of 973 receptions. Vaughn finished the season with 1,006 career receptions, a record which stood until Ben Cahoon broke it on October 11, 2010. Vaughn was the first player in CFL history to record 1,000 career receptions. Vaughn also holds the record for most 1,000+ yards receiving with 11, while also holding the record for most consecutive 1,000+ yards receiving, also with 11. He finished his career in fourth as the CFL's all-time receiving yards leader with 13,746 yards. He announced his retirement as a Calgary Stampeder near the beginning of the 2007 season.
The 77th Grey Cup was the 1989 Canadian Football League championship game played between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at SkyDome in Toronto; this was the first Grey Cup game held at the stadium as it opened in June 1989. The Roughriders defeated the Tiger-Cats, 43–40 on Dave Ridgway's winning field-goal.
George Hamilton was a Scottish international footballer, who spent most of his 21-year career with Aberdeen. He also played for Queen of the South, Heart of Midlothian and Hamilton Academical.
The 60th Grey Cup was played on December 3, 1972, before 33,993 fans at the Ivor Wynne Stadium at Hamilton. It was the last Grey Cup to be played in December until 2021, which, coincidentally, was also held in Hamilton. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 13–10.

Paul Osbaldiston is a former punter and placekicker for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League from 1986-2003. He was the Assistant Special Teams/Kicking Coach for the Tiger-Cats until 2014. Osbaldiston was a three-time CFL All-Star, seven-time East Division All-Star and a member of Hamilton’s 1986 and 1999 Grey Cup championship teams.

The 1998–99 season was Port Vale's 87th season of football in the English Football League, and fifth successive season in the First Division. It was the end of an era for the club, as manager of sixteen years John Rudge was sacked in January, and was replaced by Brian Horton. As a testament to the upheaval at the club, a club record 43 players turned out for the Vale in the league over the course of the season. The Vale just avoided relegation on goals scored, despite suffering a final day defeat to Bury, who were relegated having scored ten fewer goals. Liverpool knocked them out of the FA Cup at the Third Round, and Vale were also knocked out of the League Cup by fourth tier Chester City in the First Round. The sacking of Rudge spoiled what was supposed to be a happy season for Vale fans, as Vale competed in a division above rivals Stoke City for only the fourth time.
David Clarke is a Scottish former football player and manager. Clarke played for East Fife for his whole career, making over 500 league appearances. He holds the club record for most appearances, with 627 in all competitions. Clarke has also managed East Fife, in two different spells, and Falkirk.
The 1982 CFL Draft composed of six rounds where 72 Canadian football players were chosen from eligible Canadian universities and Canadian players playing in the NCAA. A total of 18 players were selected as territorial exemptions, with every team making at least one selection during this stage of the draft.

Michael Volcan was a Canadian football player who played for the Edmonton Eskimos. He won the Grey Cup with the Eskimos in 1955 and 1956. Volcan was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario and played football at the Hamilton Technical Institute and Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen. He won the Joe Clarke Memorial Trophy as the Eskimos MVP in 1962. He died in Edmonton in 2013.
David M. Viti was an American gridiron football end. He played college football for the Boston University Terriers and later professionally with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL) for eight seasons from 1962 to 1969. He helped the Tiger-Cats win three Grey Cup championships, in 1963, 1965 and 1967.
