Rick Shaw (born October 20, 1946) is a former American football defensive back and wide receiver in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Calgary Stampeders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He played college football at Arizona State University.

Early years

Shaw attended Herbert Hoover High School, where he was a starter at quarterback. He accepted a football scholarship from Colorado. He transferred after his freshman season to Arizona State University.

As a junior, he was a backup at quarterback behind John Goodman, registering 45 attempts for 15 completions, 242 passing yards and one touchdown. As a senior, he was a backup at quarterback behind Ed Roseborough, completing 17-of-31 passes for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns. [1]

During his time at Arizona State, he also played as a flanker and defensive back. He elected to forgo his senior season to play for the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League.

Professional career

In 1968, he signed as a free agent with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League, where he was a starter at defensive back. As a rookie, he played wide receiver in one game, finishing with 2 touchdown receptions and one fumble returned for a touchdown. He had 6 interceptions in 2 seasons.

Shaw was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round (152nd overall) of the 1969 NFL Draft, with the intention of playing him at tight end. [2] On October 31, 1969, he was released by the Stampeders so he could join the NFL in June 1970. [3]

The Cowboys waived him on August 11, 1970. [4] In August, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as a defensive back. He was cut on September 2. [5]

In September 1970, he signed as a free agent with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers after a five-day tryout. [6] He became a starter at wide receiver, recording 33 receptions for 538 yards and 2 touchdowns, while receiving CFL West All-Star honors. He was released on September 24, 1971. [7]

On May 24, 1972, he signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. [8] He had 3 interceptions as a starter at defensive back, while helping the team win the 60th Grey Cup. He announced his retirement on June 19, 1973. [9]

Burris played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1998 to 2016. He played every season in the league from 1990 to 2006, as a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, BC Lions, Edmonton Eskimos, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and finally with the Calgary Stampeders. As of 2007, his all-time CFL passing yardage is third most next to Damon Allen and Anthony Calvillo. He worked as a color commentator for TSN's CFL broadcasts, having previously appeared as a guest analyst on the CFL on CBC late in his playing career. On December 2, 2013, he was named the assistant general manager and director of U.S. scouting for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Previous to that, he served as the director of scouting for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Alphin played college football at Kansas State University. Alphin recorded four 1,000-yard receiving seasons, including a period of three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons with the Rough Riders during which he was considered one of the best receivers playing in the CFL. He was named an East all-star in 1988.

Richard Joseph Stanzi is a former American football quarterback. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Iowa.

The 107th Grey Cup decided the champion of the 2019 season in the Canadian Football League (CFL). The match was played on November 24, 2019, between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Winnipeg defeated Hamilton, 33–12. This was the Blue Bombers' first Grey Cup victory since 1990, ending one of the longest championship droughts in CFL history. Winnipeg's Andrew Harris was named both Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Canadian of the game, which was the first time a player had won both honours in the same game.

He has also been a member of the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins, and New York Jets.
