David William Magarity (born January 26, 1950) is an American college basketball coach who most recently was the head coach of the Army Black Knights women's basketball team. [1] He previously served as the head men's basketball coach at St. Francis (PA) and Marist. [2]
Magarity landed his first coaching job at his alma mater as an assistant coach in 1974, and was elevated to head coach at St. Francis in 1978, where he was 60–76 in five seasons. [2] After a three-year stop at Iona as an assistant under Pat Kennedy and participated in the 1984 and 1985 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. Magarity accepted the head coaching position at Marist in 1986, where he stayed for 18 seasons, amassing a 253–259 record while guiding the Red Foxes to the 1987 NCAA tournament with Rik Smits, as well as a National Invitational Tournament appearance in 1996. He won two ECAC Metro conference regular season titles, a tournament title, and one MAAC regular season title. [2] [3]
Magarity stepped down from Marist after the 2004 season, and became an administrator for two seasons at both the MAAC and Mid-American Conference before joining Maggie Dixon's staff at Army as a women's basketball Associate Head coach. [4] [1] After Dixon's death in 2006, Magarity was elevated to the position of head coach of the Black Knights. [5]
Magarity's daughter Maureen is a former assistant of his at Army, and was the head coach at New Hampshire for 10 years before accepting the head coaching position at Holy Cross, like Army a member of the Patriot League. His son David played basketball at Marist. [6] [7] He has several other family members who played basketball at NCAA Division I schools—sisters Anne and Rosemary respectively at La Salle and Villanova, brother Bill at Georgia, and Bill's daughter Regan at Virginia Tech. [8]
The January 9, 2021 game between Army and Holy Cross was the first time that a father and daughter coached against one another in Division I basketball. [8]

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I. Its current 13 full members are located in five Northeastern states: Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York.
Matt Brady is an American college basketball coach who is an assistant for the High Point Panthers. He is a former head coach at James Madison, Marist and DePaul, the latter on an interim basis.
Joe Logan is the former head coach of the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team, an NCAA Division I program that competes in the Patriot League. Logan was named head coach at Loyola on May 12, 2005, after spending the previous four seasons (2001–2005) as a women's basketball assistant coach at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia.

Brian Giorgis is a retired head coach of the Marist Red Foxes women's basketball program. Giorgis completed his twenty-first season at the helm as head coach in 2023. His 250th career win at Marist, which came in March 2012, coincided with his players notching the Red Foxes' 7th Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) crown, and their eighth conference crown since 2004.

The Marist Red Foxes men's basketball team is the basketball team that represents Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Red Foxes have qualified for the NCAA tournament twice, losing in the first round in both instances. Prior to joining the MAAC in 1997, Marist was a charter member of the ECAC Metro Conference in 1981; which became the Northeast Conference in 1988.
Chris Tracz is an American baseball coach and former pitcher, who is the current head baseball coach of the Army Black Knights. He played college baseball for Marist from 2001 to 2005. He served as the head coach of the Marist Red Foxes (2010–2022).
The 2017–18 Saint Peter's Peacocks basketball team represented Saint Peter's University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Peacocks, led by 12th-year head coach John Dunne, played their home games at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, New Jersey as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They finished the season 14–18 overall, 6–12 in MAAC play to finish in ninth place. As the No. 9 seed at the MAAC tournament, they defeated No. 8 seed Monmouth and upset No. 1 seed Rider to advance to the semifinals, where they lost to No. 4 seed Iona.

They finished the season 6–25, 4–14 in MAAC play to finish in a tie for tenth place. They lost in the first round of the MAAC tournament to Fairfield.

The team played its home games in Poughkeepsie, New York for the 42nd consecutive year at the McCann Arena, which has a capacity of 3,200. This season marked the program's 38th Division I season and its 22nd consecutive year as a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The team was led by first-year head coach John Dunne, who took the open head coaching position after spending the last 12 seasons at conference rival Saint Peter's University. They finished the 2018–19 season 12–19 overall, 7–11 in MAAC play to finish in eighth place. As the No. 8 seed in the 2019 MAAC tournament, they were defeated by No. 9 seed Saint Peter's in the first round 68–71 in overtime.

The 2006–07 Marist Red Foxes men's basketball team represented Marist College during the 2006–07 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Red Foxes, led by third year head coach Matt Brady, played their home games at the McCann Center and were members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The team captains were seniors Jared Jordan and Will Whittington. They finished the season 25–9 overall, 14–4 in MAAC play to finish in first place, winning the MAAC regular season championship. They advanced to the semifinals of the MAAC tournament where they lost to Siena. As a regular season conference champion who failed to win their conference tournament, they received an automatic bid to the 2007 National Invitation Tournament where they defeated Oklahoma State in the first round before falling to NC State in the second round. The season was also highlighted by wins over Big Ten Conference opponent Minnesota and Old Dominion, who had defeated eighth-ranked Georgetown two games prior.

The 2020–21 NCAA Division I women's basketball season began in November 2020 and ended with the championship game of the 2021 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on April 4, 2021. Practices officially began in October 2020.

The Red Foxes, led by first-year head coach Dave Magarity, played their home games at the James J. McCann Recreation Center in Poughkeepsie, New York as members of the ECAC Metro Conference. They finished the season 20–11, 15–1 in ECACM play, finishing in first place and winning the ECAC regular season championship. As the No. 1 seed in the ECAC tournament, they advanced to the championship game, where they defeated second-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson 64–55 in overtime to win the school's second consecutive ECAC Metro men's basketball tournament title. The Red Foxes earned the automatic bid to the 1986 NCAA tournament, receiving a 14 seed in the West region. They were defeated in the first round 68–93 by No. 12 Pittsburgh.
