David Donald Meads (born January 7,1964) is a former Major League Baseball relief pitcher. After attending college and spending time in minor league baseball,he played in two seasons for the Houston Astros.
Meads grew up in Monroe Township,Middlesex County,New Jersey and played baseball at Monroe Township High School,from which he graduated in 1981. [1]
Meads played baseball at Middlesex College and was scouted by Clary Anderson. Meads was inducted into the Middlesex College Athletics Hall of Fame in their inaugural class in 2022. He was drafted by Houston in the sixth round of the 1984 amateur draft. Meads started at the lowest tier with the GCL Astros of the Gulf Coast League in 1984 at age 20 before being promoted to low A ball with the Auburn Astros of the New York–Penn League. In 1986 he rose through A and into AA with the Columbus Astros of the Southern League,registering a 1–1 win–loss record with a 4.43 earned run average (ERA) in 16 games. [2]
Meads started the 1987 season with the Tucson Toros of the AAA Pacific Coast League. He went 1–0 with a 2.80 ERA in 10 appearances before being called up by Houston in April. [2] Meads made his debut on April 13,1987,and got his first victory on April 23,striking out Ken Griffey,the only batter he faced. [3] He went 5–3 with a 5.55 ERA in 45 appearances out of the bullpen. [4]
Meads started the 1988 season back with Tucson,but was called up again later in the season and proceeded to go 3–1 with a 3.18 ERA in 22 games pitched. In 1989,while playing with Tucson,he had an arm injury that cut short his career. [5]
Floyd Franklin Bannister is an American former professional baseball left-handed pitcher,who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Houston Astros (1977–1978),Seattle Mariners (1979–1982),Chicago White Sox (1983–1987),Kansas City Royals (1988–1989),California Angels (1991),and Texas Rangers (1992). Bannister also played for the Yakult Swallows of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB),in 1990. Bannister was the first overall pick in the 1976 MLB draft.
Charles Patrick Kerfeld is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) relief pitcher. He grew up in Carson City,Nevada. Charlie played baseball for the Carson City High Senators. After he entered major league baseball,almost all of his career was spent with the Houston Astros. With the Astros,Kerfeld became known for a quirky sense of humor. He pitched for the Houston organization between 1985 and 1990,winning a division title with the Astros in 1986. He was in the minor leagues in 1988 and 1989 before briefly returning to the major leagues with the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves in 1990. After his retirement,Kerfeld entered minor league baseball as a coach. He holds a front office position for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Paul Anthony Wilson is an American former professional baseball pitcher. A right-hander,he played all or parts of seven seasons in Major League Baseball. Wilson was the first overall pick in the 1994 MLB Draft.
David Arthur Roberts was an American professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as a left-handed pitcher from 1969 to 1981 for eight teams. He was second in the National League (NL) with a 2.10 earned run average (ERA) in 1971 for the San Diego Padres,after which he was traded to the Houston Astros,where he spent the four most productive years of his career. Roberts was also a member of the 1979 World Series winning Pittsburgh Pirates team. Over his major league career he won 103 games.

Brent Terry Strom is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher and active pitching coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks. His MLB playing career spanned from 1972 to 1973 and 1975 to 1977 for the New York Mets,Cleveland Indians and San Diego Padres. He served as pitching coach for the Houston Astros in 1996 and from 2014 to 2021,helping guide the club to the 2017 World Series championship.
