Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area that is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called rocks, across the ice curling sheet toward the house, a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a game; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each end, which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. A game usually consists of eight or ten ends.
Christopher McQuarrie is an American screenwriter, film producer, and director. He received the BAFTA Award, Independent Spirit Award, and Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the neo-noir mystery film The Usual Suspects (1995). He made his directorial debut with the crime thriller film The Way of the Gun (2000).
Robot Dreams (1986) is a collection of science fiction short stories by American writer Isaac Asimov, illustrated by Ralph McQuarrie. The title story is about Susan Calvin's discovery of a robot with rather disturbing dreams. It was written specifically for this volume and inspired by the McQuarrie cover illustration. All of the other stories had previously appeared in various other Asimov collections. Four of the stories are robot stories, while five are Multivac stories.
Donald O'Riley Quarrie CD is a Jamaican former track and field athlete, one of the world's top sprinters during the 1970s. At the 1976 Summer Olympics he was the gold medallist in the Olympic 200 meters and silver medallist in the Olympic 100 meters. In all, he competed in five Olympic Games and won four Olympic medals during his career.

The Grand Slam of Curling is a series of curling bonspiels that were formerly part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women, but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels.
Charles Hay, MBE was a Scottish curler and World Champion. He skipped the Scottish team that won the 1967 World Curling Championships, known then as the Scotch Cup. The other members of the Scottish team were John Bryden, Alan Glen and Dave Howie. They defeated Sweden in the final. Scotland did not win another men's world title until 1991 when David Smith's rink beat Canada in Winnipeg.

The 1987 Scott Tournament of Hearts, the Canadian women's curling championship, was held from February 28 to March 7, 1987 at the Lethbridge Sportsplex in Lethbridge, Alberta. The total attendance for the week was a then-record 34,277, which shattered the previous mark set in 1984 by over 10,000.
The 1979 Macdonald Lassies Championship, the Canadian women's curling championship was held February 25 to March 2, 1979, at the Town of Mount Royal Arena in Mount Royal, Quebec. This was the last women's championship to be sponsored by Macdonald Tobacco and also the first event to feature a playoff.

Lee Anne Merklinger is Canadian female curler from Nepean, Ontario. Merklinger played second for the Sherry Middaugh rink on the World Curling Tour from 2010 to 2018. Among the team's accomplishments were finishing runners up at the 2013 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials and winning the 2012 Curlers Corner Autumn Gold Curling Classic Grand Slam event.
Myrna McQuarrie was a Canadian curler. McQuarrie and her Lethbridge Curling Club rink of Rita Tarnava, Barbara Davis and Jane Rempel won the 1977 Macdonald Lassies Championship, Canada's national women's curling championship.
