David Law (born 7 September 1973) is a British sports broadcaster. He primarily commentates on tennis for BBC Radio Five Live [1] and BT Sport. He also presents The Tennis Podcast. [2]

Education

Law was educated at Blue Coat School, Walsall, followed by University of Loughborough. He then studied journalism at Cornwall College.

Life and career

He worked as a communications manager for the ATP World Tour [3] between 1998 and 2001.

Since 2002, he has been a reporter and commentator on tennis for BBC Radio 5 Live, [4] commentating at the Australian Open, US Open [5] and Wimbledon. In the 2013 US Open final, he described a 54-stroke rally between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. [6]

He has presented The Tennis Podcast with Catherine Whitaker since 2012. [7]

He has commentated on television on the WTA Tour [8] for BT Sport since 2013.

As well as broadcasting, he has worked in the media department at the Queen's Club Championships since 1996, and became the tournament's Media Director in 2009. [9]

He supports West Bromwich Albion, and is responsible for turning the tennis player Goran Ivanisevic into a fan of the club. [10] In 2011, he took Ivanisevic to his first WBA match at Loftus Road, home of Queen's Park Rangers. [11] In 2013, he took Ivanisevic to WBA's home ground, The Hawthorns, for a match against Manchester City. [12]

Roger Federer is a Swiss professional tennis player. He is ranked No. 16 in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). He has won 20 Grand Slam men's singles titles, an all-time record shared with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Federer has been world No. 1 in the ATP rankings a total of 310 weeks – including a record 237 consecutive weeks – and has finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. Federer has won 103 ATP singles titles, the second most of all-time behind Jimmy Connors, including a record six ATP Finals.

In professional tennis, aces are generally seen on a player's first serve, where the server can strike the ball with maximum force and take more chances with ball placement, such as the far corners of the service box. The Miami Open is a tennis tournament held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. It is part of the men's ATP Tour Masters 1000 circuit, and part of the women's WTA 1000 circuit. The Miami Open is usually held between March and April.

The 2001 Wimbledon Championships was a tennis tournament played on grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London in the United Kingdom, held from 25 June to 9 July 2001. It was the 115th edition of the Wimbledon Championships, part of the 2001 ATP and WTA Tours, and it was the third Grand Slam tennis event of the year.

Defending champion Roger Federer successfully defended his title, defeating Andy Roddick in the final, 4–6, 7–5, 7–6(7–3), 6–4 to win the Gentlemen's Singles tennis title at the 2004 Wimbledon Championships. It was his second Wimbledon title and his third major title overall. This tournament marked the beginning of Federer's record streak of 23 consecutive major semifinals and 36 consecutive major quarterfinals.

Goran Ivanišević defeated Pat Rafter in the final, 6–3, 3–6, 6–3, 2–6, 9–7 to win the Gentlemen's Singles tennis title at the 2001 Wimbledon Championships. It was his first and only major title. Ivanišević became the first unseeded player to win the title since Boris Becker in 1985, and the first wild card to win a Major. His ranking improved by 109 places following the win, from world No. 125 to world No. 16. Ivanišević had reached the Wimbledon final three times before but lost each time.
