David Mba is the vice chancellor of Birmingham City University, UK [2] . He was awarded the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Ludwig Mond Prize in 2010 for his contributions to the chemical industry. [3] He serves on the advisory board of the Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers (AFBE-UK). [4]

Education

Mba studied aerospace engineering at the University of Hertfordshire. He joined Cranfield University for his doctoral studies where he was awarded a PhD in 1998 for research supervised by R. H. Bannister. [5] [6]

Career and research

Mba was awarded the Lord King Norton Gold medal for his thesis. [7] He joined Cranfield University as a lecturer in 2001. Here he led Turbo-machinery group. [8] Mba was made the Dean of School of Engineering at London South Bank University in 2014. [8] He serves on the advisory board of the Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers (AFBE-UK). He collaborated with AFBE-UK to try and improve the representation of black and minority ethnic engineers London South Bank University. [9] [10] He was made the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Computing and Engineering at De Montfort University in August 2017. [7] He works on the gearbox of helicopters and ways to monitor their health. [11] [12] [13] On the 18 July 2023, Birmingham City University announced Mba's appointment as new Vice-Chancellor, replacing Philip Plowden [14]

Dame Karen Margaret Holford is a Welsh engineer, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Cranfield University. She was formerly Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Cardiff University. She is also a former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering and Head of the School of Engineering. She is an active researcher of acoustic emission and her work has been applied to damage assessment inspections on industrial components.

In 2016 the Women's Engineering Society (WES), in collaboration with the Daily Telegraph, produced an inaugural list of the United Kingdom's Top 50 Influential Women in Engineering, which was published on National Women in Engineering Day on 23 June 2016. The event was so successful it became an annual celebration. The list was instigated by Dawn Bonfield MBE, then Chief Executive of the Women's Engineering Society. In 2019, WES ended its collaboration with the Daily Telegraph and started a new collaboration with The Guardian newspaper.

Dr Nike Folayan is a Chartered Engineer and a Telecommunications Engineering Consultant. She is co-founder and chair of the Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers that campaigns for more ethnic diversity in UK engineering.

Ozak-Obazi Oluwaseyi Esu is a Nigerian electrical engineer who is the technical lead at the BRE Centre for Smart Homes and Buildings (CSHB). She previously worked at Cundall in Birmingham, designing the electrical services for buildings.

Bhola Thapa is a Nepali educationist, researcher, author and the vice chancellor of Kathmandu University. He is also a professor in the department of mechanical engineering at Kathmandu University.
