David Merriman (born 4 September 1975) is a musician and filmmaker from Dublin, Ireland. He is known for his films The State of Being Human (2015) and Re-Creation (2024).
Merriman was born 4 September 1975.[ citation needed ] As a child, he lived in Alabama for five years. [1] At age 16, Merriman focused on developing his skill as a singer under the guidance of his uncle, Frank Merriman. [2]
Merriman began his career as a musician in the band Exit with his brothers. They moved to Los Angeles and secured a record deal as a band but were later dropped. After the band split, Merriman and his brother Judah formed another band and toured the United States for 15 years. [2]
in 2015, Merriman released The State of Being Human, a film that explores the nature of homophobia. For the film, he interviewed approximately 16 people, including Irish drag queen Panti Bliss and Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore. [1]
Following The State of Being Human, Merriman began working on the short film Popsy based on the short story of the same name by Stephen King. [1] The 10-minute film was released in 2016. [3]
In 2021, Merriman directed the film Rock Against Homelessness, a filmed concert that streamed on "Virgin Media Player for 90 days in an effort to boost donations to homelessness charity Focus Ireland". [4]
While working on Rock Against Homelessness, Merriman met and befriended Irish filmmaker Jim Sheridan, and the two began collaborating. Together, they wrote and directed the feature Re-Creation, which focuses on the unsolved murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier in December 1996. [5] [6] The film stars Vicky Krieps (as Sophie), Colm Meaney, Aidan Gilles and John Connors. [7] [8] [9]
Sheridan and Merriman continued their collaboration by writing the feature Kerry Babies, which is schedule for release in 2025. The film is based on the real-life events of Kerry woman Joanne Hayes, who was falsely accused of murder in 1985. [10] [11]
After living in the United States, Merriman returned to Ireland circa 2012, settling in Portmarnock [2]
The César Award is the national film award of France. It is delivered in the Nuit des César ceremony and was first awarded in 1976. The nominations are selected by the members of twelve categories of filmmaking professionals and supported by the French Ministry of Culture. The nationally televised award ceremony is held in Paris each year in February. The exact location has changed over the years. Between 1989 and 1993, Sheridan directed three critically acclaimed films set in Ireland, My Left Foot (1989), The Field (1990), and In the Name of the Father (1993), and later directed the films The Boxer (1997), In America (2003), and Brothers (2009). Sheridan received six Academy Award nominations.

Daniel Toscan du Plantier was a French film producer. Educated at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques he became advertising manager for the France Soir daily newspaper in 1966 and between 1975 and 1985 was director-general of the Gaumont Film Company, and president of Unifrance, an organisation for promoting French films, from 1988 until his death.

The 41st César Awards ceremony, presented by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, was held on 26 February 2016, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris to honour the best French films of 2015. The ceremony was presided by Claude Lelouch, with Florence Foresti hosting the ceremony for the first time.
Minister for Justice Equality and Law Reform v Bailey[2012] IESC 16, was an Irish Supreme Court case in which the Court held they did not have the jurisdiction to order the surrender of a non-Irish citizen for the commission of a crime committed in Ireland. Ian Bailey was accused of murdering a French citizen in Ireland. The French judicial authorities requested the extradition of Bailey from Ireland to France so to question him about the crime. However, the issue in this case was that Bailey is not a French citizen, rather his nationality is British. This case dealt with an unprecedented question of law as usually the person requested by the issuing state is a national of that state. The significance of this case was that the Supreme Court dealt with a situation where Bailey was a British national yet the French authorities requested for his extradition. Nevertheless, the Court decided that Bailey could not be surrendered because the French had not actually charged him with a crime.

It is based on the opera Madama Butterfly with music by Giacomo Puccini and libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. Soprano Ying Huang, tenor Richard Troxell, mezzo-soprano Ning Liang, and bass-baritone Richard Cowan star in the film, in addition to singing their roles. The score was adapted, arranged, and conducted by James Conlon.

The 13-episode series premiered as an Audible original on 8 February 2018, as a binge, and was made freely available widely as a podcast in 2021. A new episode of the series was released on 14 May 2021, detailing the trial in absentia of the main suspect.
In the Land of Saints and Sinners is a 2023 Irish action thriller film directed by Robert Lorenz and written by Mark Michael McNally and Terry Loane. The film stars Liam Neeson in the lead role, alongside other Irish actors including Kerry Condon, Jack Gleeson, Colm Meaney and Ciarán Hinds. This is Neeson's second collaboration with Lorenz after the 2021 film The Marksman.
