Dazzling Mirage is a 2014 Nigerian drama film, produced and directed by Tunde Kelani; it stars Kemi "Lala" Akindoju, Kunle Afolayan, Bimbo Manuel, Yomi Fash Lanso, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett and Seun Akindele. [2] [3] [4] It also features special appearances from Adewale Ayuba, Sean Tizzle, Tunde Babalola and Steve Sodiya. [5] The film is an adaptation of a novel of the same name by Olayinka Abimbola Egbokhare, adapted to screen by Ade Solanke. [6] It tells the story of a young sickle-cell patient and the various social and emotional challenges she is faced with.

Production

It was announced in March 2012, just after the theatrical release of Maami, that Kelani would be adapting Olayinka Abimbola's Dazzling Mirage to the big screen. [7] As of January 2013, the adaptation was confirmed to have commenced. [8] Kelani believes the film to be his way of contributing towards public awareness of genotype-related issues like sickle-cell anaemia, hoping young couples would pay attention to its importance. [9] He states: "all of us are connected directly or indirectly to the sufferers of this ailment"; "I have also had personal relationships with sufferers of this ailment and I consider it my responsibility to bring their story to fore." [10] [11] [12] Kemi Akindoju had her screen test on 12 June 2013 [13] and principal photography commenced on 18 September 2013. [14]

Release

A promotional poster of Dazzling Mirage was unveiled on 24 June 2013; [15] Onset pictures were also constantly released to the public during the course of filming. [2] [10] The first trailer for the film was released to the public on 1 December 2013 [10] and a second trailer was released on 14 February 2014. [16] [17] The first official poster, together with a third trailer was released on 18 June 2014, ahead of the 2014 World Sickle-cell Awareness Day. [3] [6] [18] [19] The film screened at the Nollywood Film Festival in New Zealand; [20] it premiered on 7 November 2014 at the Muson Centre, Lagos, [21] [22] and was generally released theatrically on 20 February 2015. [23]

Accolades

Dazzling Mirage has been nominated in the "Best Costume Design" category at the 2015 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. [24]

<i>Ayinla</i> (film) 2021 Nigerian movie by Tunde Kelani

Ayinla is a musical eponymous film based on the life of Ayinla Yusuf popularly known as Ayinla Omowura, an Apala musician who was stabbed to death by his manager named Bayewu in a bar fight on 6 May 1980 at Abeokuta. The film premiered on 13 June 2021 in Lagos and was released to theatres on 18 June 2021. Directed by Tunde Kelani, the film was set in the 1970s and early 1980s and shot in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Lateef Adedimeji assumed the role of Ayinla, starring alongside Omowumi Dada, Bimbo Manuel, Ade Laoye, Kunle Afolayan, Bimbo Ademoye and Mr Macaroni. Ayinla is Kelani's first major film since his 2015 release of Dazzling Mirage. The budget for this feature film is officially given as ₦50 Million.

Ajuwaya is a 2017 Nigerian movie produced and directed by Tolu Awobiyi Lord Tanner. The adventure movie stars Timini Egbuson, Lanre Hassan, Etinosa Idemudia, Kemi Lala Akindoju and Rahama Sadau.
