Deccani Souls is a 2012 art film written and directed by Kaz Rahman. It tells the story of three characters: Hamza, a traveller from an unknown land; Babu, a census collector and Siddiq, an Urdu poet struggling with writer's block as they wander through Hyderabad and are unknowingly connected by the history of Operation Polo. Deccani Souls was screened at The Hollywood Theater in Pittsburgh, USA. [6] on 14 June 2012. It was screened at the Transmissions Film Festival in New Delhi, India and was later screened to public at Cochin, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Hyderabad and Mumbai. [7]

Hyderabad is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana. Deccani or Deccani Urdu (دکنی, dakanī or دکھنی, dakhanī; is an Indo-Aryan language based on a form of Old Urdu spoken in the Deccan region of south-central India and is the native language of the Deccani people. The historical form of Deccani sparked the development of Urdu literature during the late-Mughal period. Deccani arose as a lingua franca under the Delhi and Bahmani Sultanates, as trade and migration from the north introduced Old Urdu to the Deccan. It later developed a literary tradition under the patronage of the Deccan Sultanates. Deccani itself came to influence modern standard Urdu and later Hindi.

He had earlier served as Professor and chairman, Department of Ilmul Advia at the Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, for over 40 years before retiring as Dean Faculty of Unani Medicine. Anandan "Drums" Sivamani is an Indian percussionist. He plays many instruments including drums, octoban, darbuka, udukai, ghatam and kanjira. He performed drumming during the Indian Premier League in 2008 and 2010. He is affiliated with the Chennai Super Kings team, but gained recognition through his role as A. R. Rahman's lead percussionist. They have been close friends since childhood. In 2019, he was conferred with Padma Shri.

The films have gained popularity not only in the Deccan region of India, but as well as other Hindi-Urdu speaking areas of the world. The films are produced in the Deccani language, an Indo-Aryan language spoken in the Deccan region of southern India, and more specifically, in Hyderabadi Urdu, while some films incorporate standard Urdu dialogues as well, especially in its music.
