Deceptive Fifty was a various artists compilation album issued by Deceptive Records to celebrate fifty releases on the label. It was released in 1998.

Deceptive Records was a British independent record label formed in 1992 by Steve Lamacq, Tony Smith and Alan James, which concentrated on rock and alternative rock. The most famous group signed to the label were Elastica.

Elastica were an English rock band formed in London in 1992. The band are influenced by punk rock, post-punk and new wave music. They are best known for their 1995 album Elastica, which produced singles that charted in the United Kingdom and the United States, including their highest charting US Hot 100 hit "Connection". They split amicably in 2001, roughly a year after releasing their second LP.

Scarfo were a British rock band, formed in Andover, England in 1994, by former art college students Jamie Hince, Nick Prior (bass), and Al Saunders (drums). Scarfo was the culmination of several other bands and line ups involving Hince and Saunders including "Remember the Rabbitts", and "Electric Turkey Land". The line up for both these bands included long term friend of Hince, and fellow resident of the Newbury area, "Wob". Wob went on to play, like Hince, with the punk-folk ensemble "Blyth Power".

Earl Brutus were a British indie rock band that emerged in the 1990s. They were formed in 1993 by Nick Sanderson, Rob Marche, Jamie Fry and Stuart Boreman. Boreman left after the release of their first single Life's Too Long and was replaced by Gordon King, who had been in World of Twist with Fry.
