Declan John Edge (born 18 September 1965) is a former professional footballer who is the current manager of Swedish club Torslanda IK. [1] Born in Malaysia to English parents, Edge represented the New Zealand national team in the 1980s and 1990s. [2]

Edge is considered one of the premier developers of footballing talent in New Zealand, acting as technical director for the Olé Football Academy and developing players such as Ryan Thomas and Tyler Boyd. [3]

Playing career

Edge made his full All Whites debut as a substitute in a 5–0 win over Fiji on 3 June 1985 [4] and ended his international playing career with 26 A-international caps and 1 goal to his credit, [2] [5] his final cap an appearance in a 2–0 loss to England on 8 June 1991. [4]

Declan's nephew Jesse Edge is a former New Zealand youth international [6] and is father of Harry Edge. [7]

The Olé Football Academy, commonly referred to as Olé, is a national association football centre based in the city of Porirua in the Wellington Region, New Zealand. Considered the premier football academy in New Zealand, Olé are currently represented at the senior level by Central Premier League side Western Suburbs, and have produced a number of New Zealand internationals in both men's and women's football. Founded in 1997 by Dave Wilson and his son, Michael, the academy was directed by Declan Edge from 2012 to 2020. 2020- 2022 the Technical Director was Ben Sippola. As of 2023, the new Technical Director is Alan Koch who has taken over the management of the academy. Coach Koch is also the head coach of Western Suburbs Football Club.
