Biography

Deepak Malik was born in the Bhainswal village in the Haryana state in 1995. He was a normal kid who went to school regularly until the age of 8. At the age of 8 in 2004, during the Diwali day he lost his eyesight completely after bursting the firecrackers by mistakenly on to his eyes. [5] After the accident, Deepak went onto study at a blind school in Delhi. [6] [7] [8]

Career

He has been a member of the national team since playing for India at the 2014 Blind Cricket World Cup. He was a key member of the Indian team which claimed its first Blind Cricket World Cup victory after beating arch-rivals Pakistan in the finals of the 2014 Blind Cricket World Cup. In the 2014 Blind Cricket World Cup, he set the record for scoring the fastest fifty in blind cricket history off 17 balls against Sri Lanka in the semifinals. [9] [10]

Deepak Malik also played vital roles in India's triumph at the 2016 Blind T20 Asia Cup and the 2017 Blind T20 World Cup tournaments. [11]

He was named in the Indian squad for the 2018 Blind Cricket World Cup. In the opening match for India at the tournament against Sri Lanka, he scored a crucial knock of unbeaten 179 off 102 deliveries which helped the side to win the match convincingly by 6 wickets in a mammoth chase of 359 runs. [12] [13] [14] [15] He too continued his good form especially with the bat scoring fifties against arch-rivals Pakistan (79 off 71) and also contributed with some economical bowling spells in the group stage matches as India secured the 2018 edition of the Blind Cricket World Cup under the captaincy of Ajay Kumar Reddy. Suranga Sampath is a Sri Lankan blind cricketer. He was part of the Sri Lankan team during the 2017 ICC World T20 for the Blind. In the 2017 Blind T20 World Cup, he was the top scorer throughout the tournament with an aggregate of 733 runs with an average of excess 150. He also scored 5 centuries during the tournament, the most by any player in a single Blind T20 World Cup series; thus becoming the only batsman to score 5 centuries in a single edition of a Blind T20 World Cup. He picked up 4 wickets during the tournament to be adjudged the man of the tournament.

Sri Lanka National Deaf Cricket Team represents Sri Lanka in international deaf cricket arena. The team consists of players who are having hearing problems (deaf). The team also participated in the 3rd edition of the 2017 Deaf Cricket Asia Cup tournament in India. The team ended up as runners-up to India in the finals, lost the match by a big margin of 156 runs.

The 2018 Blind Cricket World Cup was the fifth Blind Cricket World Cup tournament, and was held from 8–20 January 2018 in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. In the final, defending champions India defeated Pakistan by 2 wickets to secure their 2nd Blind Cricket World Cup title under the captaincy of Ajay Kumar Reddy. Six teams, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Australia and Nepal played in the tournament, with Nepal making their first ever appearance.

The 2018 Deaf T20 World Cup was the 3rd edition of the Deaf Cricket World Cup tournament, and was held from 23 to 30 November 2018 for 8 days in India and all of the scheduled matches were held in the city of Gurugram, New Delhi. In the final, Sri Lanka defeated hosts and defending champions India by 36 runs to secure their first ever Deaf T20 World Cup title. Five teams including hosts India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Australia and Nepal played in the tournament. The tournament was hosted by Deaf Cricket Society in India affiliating with the Deaf International Cricket Council. The tournament began with hosts India played against South Africa on 23 November 2018.
