Deirdre Ryan was born 1 June 1982. She tried several sports as a child, including basketball, hockey, swimming, soccer, and gymnastics. At the age of eight, she joined Dundrum South Dublin Athletics Club. She first tried the high jump when she was around 13 years old. She also performed the long jump and ran the hurdles. [1]
Her first international competition was the 1999 World Youth Championships in Poland. Ryan competed in the high jump and finished in ninth place. [2]
Ryan had a stress fracture in 2003. [3]
She finished thirteenth at the 2006 European Championships. She also competed at the 1999 World Youth Championships, the 2002 European Indoor Championships, the 2007 European Indoor Championships, the 2009 European Indoor Championships, the 2009 World Championships and the 2010 World Indoor Championships. In January 2009, she achieved a personal best jump of 1.93 metres indoors in Leverkusen. [4] She started the 2011 season by tearing ligaments in both of her feet. [3] She started training full-time in Leverkusen, Germany in 2009 under Gerd Osenberg. In August 2011 she jumped 1.95 metres outdoors to place sixth in her heat at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics in Daegu, South Korea, [3] which also qualified her for the final. [4] This height set a new Irish record and was the A-standard qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games. [5] [2] In the final, Ryan finished in joint-sixth position (fifth after competitor disqualification). [6]
She missed three weeks of training when she sprained her ankle in January 2012. [3] In the London Olympic Games, Ryan successfully cleared 1.80m in her first attempt and 1.85m in two attempts, but failed to clear 1.90m. She clipped the bar with her feet on the first attempt, jumped from a poor location on the second attempt, and parallel planted on the third attempt. She did not advance to the finals. [7]

Kelly Jade Sotherton is a British former heptathlete, long jumper and relay runner. In the heptathlon she was the bronze medallist at the 2004 Summer Olympics and, following the disqualification of two other athletes, also at the 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as being part of the bronze medal-winning team in the Women's 4x400m relay at the 2008 Summer Olympics. As such she is one of only five women to win multiple medals in Olympic heptathlon. She also won a bronze at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. Representing England, Sotherton is a one-time Commonwealth Games champion, as the heptathlon gold medallist at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Elizaveta Ryzih is a German pole vault athlete. Two times an Olympian, she was 6th in London and 10th in Rio Olympic games. She was described by one athletics commentator as a "tall, fast and athletic" pole vaulter, and she has seen good success in European Championships as well as being a constant presence in the world yearly rankings of pole vaulters, placing among the top 10 vaulters in recent years.

Holly Bethan Bradshaw is an English track and field athlete who specialises in the pole vault. She used to be the British record holder in the event indoors and outdoors, with clearances of 4.87 metres and 4.90 metres. Bradshaw won a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She also won bronze at the 2012 World Indoor Championships, gold at the 2013 European Indoor Championships, bronze at the 2018 European Championships, and silver at the 2019 European Indoor Championships. O'Flaherty competed in the 2016 Olympic Games. She has also competed at two European Championships and one European Indoor Championships.
