Engr Adedeji Ashiru (FNSE) [1] is a Nigerian engineer and the MD/CEO of Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, [2] [3] a federal agency under the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Water Resources and one of the twelve River Basin Development Authorities (RBDAs) established by the Federal Government of Nigeria under Decrees number 25 of 1976 and 31 of 1977. Early life and education

Ashiru was born in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, into the family of Mr Richard Adebisi Ashiru and Mrs Folake Ashiru. He grew up in Ijebu Ode, where he began his education at Precious Stone Primary Mission School and then proceeded to Ijebu Ode Grammar School for his secondary school education. He studied Mechanical Engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University and graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. [6] In 2007, he completed his Master of Science degree in Ocean and Offshore Technology at Cranfield University and a Doctorate in Engineering at the Common Wealth University in 2018. [7]

Career

Corporate services

Ashiru began his career at ABB Lummus Global in 1996 where he worked on various gas distribution and pipeline projects. [8] He worked for Oando Gas and Power as a senior consultant [9] and then moved to Bolivia Gas Energy Technology Limited between 2003 to 2008 where he served as principal consultant managing various engineering projects and then rose to become the MD/CEO in 2008 which he served until 2014. [10]

In 2015, he co-founded CONTEC Global Energy Limited where he served as Managing Director/CEO up until 2024. [11]

Political career

Ashiru political career started in 2018 when he contested the Ogun East Senatorial seat on the platform of the African Democratic Party (ADC). [12] [13] He later joined All Progressives Congress in 2019 on the invitation of Dapo Abiodun where he supported his emergence as the governor of Ogun State in 2019. [14] He also ran as All Progressives Congress Senatorial aspirant in 2022. [15] [16] [17]

Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority

Ashiru was appointed the MD/CEO of Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA) by President Bola Tinubu in May 2024. He replaced Otunba Olufemi Odumosu. [18]

Personal life

He is married to Opeoluwa Ashiru, and they have four children. He is a Christian and an ordained pastor of the Elevation Church [19] and also the Otunba Adegoroye of Ijebu Ososa. [20] [21]

Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, formerly the Gateway Stadium, is a multi-use stadium in Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground for FC Ebedei. The stadium has a capacity of 20,000 people. It was renovated for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo was governor of Ogun State in Nigeria from October 1979 – December 1983, during the Nigerian Second Republic. He was of Ijebu extraction.

Ojude Oba is an ancient festival celebrated by the Yoruba people of Ijebu-Ode, a major town in Ogun State, Southwestern Nigeria. This annual festival usually takes place the third day after Eid al-Kabir (Ileya), to pay homage and show respect to the Royal Majesty, the Awujale of Ijebuland. It is one of the most spiritual and glamorous festivals celebrated in Ijebuland and generally in Ogun State as a whole.

Itele, or Ijebu-Itele, is a town in the Ogun state of Nigeria, about 286 miles (460 km) from Abuja, the country's capital. The community is part of Ijebu-East LGA. It is considered a traditional state because it is headed by a king (Oba) with the royal title of Moyegeso, a part II Oba as stated in the official gazette in 1990 of the Ogun State Government. Ijebu Ode Grammar School (JOGS) is a boys-only secondary school located in Ijebu Ode local government area of Ogun State, South-Western Nigeria. Founded on 20 January 1913, the school is one of the oldest schools in Nigeria.

The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Kwara State held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Kwara State. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe representing Kwara Central, Suleiman Sadiq Umar representing Kwara North and Yisa Oyelola Ashiru representing Kwara South all won on the platform of All Progressives Congress.

The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Ogun State was held on 25 February 2023, to elect the 3 federal Senators from Ogun State, one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections coincided with the 2023 presidential election, as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives; with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.

Noah Ibrahim is a Nigerian entrepreneur and chief executive officer at Novarick Homes, a property development company which was started in 2018. In 2021, he was appointed as the ECOWAS youth ambassador and received the Africa's Patriotic Personality Award from the League of African Development Students.
