The 1996 Delaware gubernatorial election was held on November 5, 1996, to elect the Governor of the state of Delaware. Incumbent governor Thomas Carper, the Democratic nominee, was re-elected to his second and final term in a landslide over Republican nominee and Delaware State Treasurer Janet Rzewnicki.

A governor is, in most cases, a public official with the power to govern the executive branch of a non-sovereign or sub-national level of government, ranking under the head of state. In federations, governor may be the title of a politician who governs a constituent state and may be either appointed or elected. The power of the individual governor can vary dramatically between political systems, with some governors having only nominal or largely ceremonial power, while others having a complete control over the entire government.

1996 Montana gubernatorial election

The 1996 Montana gubernatorial election took place on November 5, 1996. Incumbent Governor of Montana Marc Racicot, who was first elected in 1992, ran for re-election. After winning the Republican primary against a conservative activist, he moved on to the general election, where he was set to face Chet Blaylock, a former State Senator and the Democratic nominee. However, on October 23, 1996, Blaylock died of a heart attack, and the Montana Democratic Party selected his running mate, State Senator Judy Jacobson, to replace him as the gubernatorial nominee, and she therefore appeared on the ballot as both the gubernatorial nominee and the lieutenant gubernatorial nominee. Ultimately, however, Racicot was able to defeat Jacobson in a landslide to win re-election to his second and final term as governor.

Stephanie Leigh Hansen is an American politician. She is a Democrat member of the Delaware Senate, representing District 10. She was elected in 2017 after winning a special election to fill the seat of Bethany Hall-Long, who had resigned to take office as the state's lieutenant governor. Prior to being elected to the state senate, Hansen served as president of the New Castle County Council.

1988 Delaware gubernatorial election

The 1988 Delaware gubernatorial election took place on November 8, 1988. Incumbent Republican Governor Mike Castle won re-election to a second term, defeating Democratic nominee Jacob Kreshtool. As of 2019, this is the most recent election in which a Republican was elected governor of Delaware.
